Quang Binh welcomes students back to school after floods

Quang Binh - On the morning of November 4, the provincial Department of Education and Training said that schools in the area have been repaired to welcome students back to school after the flood.

In Le Thuy district, 64 schools and school sites were affected, including 420 classrooms flooded, causing damage of over 6.7 billion VND.

Quang Ninh district has 29 schools flooded from 0.3 to 1.6m; many schools are isolated, 324 classrooms and functional rooms are flooded, causing damage of more than 6.1 billion VND.

Total damage to education in the province is nearly 13 billion VND.

Mr. Nguyen Van Vung - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Le Thuy district said that as the water level began to recede, schools have proactively cleaned the environment to ensure safe teaching and learning. Schools are now ready to welcome students back.

On the morning of November 4, Lao Dong Newspaper's reporter recorded moderate rain in Quang Binh province. Quang Binh Hydrometeorological Station said that in the coming days, the locality is forecast to have heavy to very heavy rain.

According to the forecast, from the evening and night of November 3 to the morning of November 5 in Quang Binh province, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain with total rainfall ranging from 80-300mm, in some places over 320mm. Be on guard for localized rain with intensity greater than 120mm/3 hours.

Warning during the day and night of November 5, Quang Binh area will still have heavy rain, locally very heavy rain and thunderstorms, with common rainfall from 70-150mm, some places over 200mm.

Heavy rains are forecast to cause flash floods and landslides in Tuyen Hoa and Minh Hoa districts; mountainous areas of Bo Trach, Quang Trach, Quang Ninh and Le Thuy districts; and risk of flooding in low-lying areas, riverside areas and urban areas.

The Department of Education and Training of Quang Binh province has given direct instructions to the units under the Department; the Department of Education and Training, vocational education and continuing education centers, and educational institutions in the province. Depending on the developments of floods and the actual conditions at the facilities, the Principals and Directors of the units under the Department; Heads of the Department of Education and Training, Directors of vocational education and continuing education centers of districts, towns, and cities will proactively let students stay home from school and return to school when safety is ensured.

Educational units and institutions assign people to be on duty 24/7, arrange sufficient forces to effectively implement flood prevention and control plans, and promptly handle situations that may arise.

Deploying response work with the motto "4 on-site" absolutely no subjectivity, negligence; ready to deploy forces and means to participate in rescue and promptly handle situations that may occur.

Areas at risk of flash floods, landslides, and deep flooding during heavy rains should proactively move equipment, teaching aids, documents, and records to higher floors or to places without risk of flooding to avoid damage.
