Center increases prices
Since the school and teachers announced the suspension of additional teaching, Ms. Dinh Hong Phuong - a parent of a 7th grade student at Hong Ha Secondary School (Dan Phuong, Hanoi) - has registered for 2 different centers for her children to study.
I was quite surprised when the center increased from 60,000 VND to 100,000 VND per session, while the class was quite crowded with students. However, they also said that this is the amount of money to invest in facilities because the number of students registered has increased" - Ms. Phuong shared.
With the desire to send his child to extra classes, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - a parent of a 10th grade student at Trung Gia High School (Soc Son, Hanoi) - is struggling to choose a center.
"Given the widespread opening of the center, I was afraid that their teachers were not competent. Most of the centers are not the same as the teachers in the school, so I am not sure to send them to them" - Mr. Tuan said.
However, Mr. Tuan said that he will still choose a center after consulting with other parents. This comes from the fear that children will not study well if they do not participate in extra classes.
Not all students need to take extra classes
In response to parents' concerns, Mr. Nguyen Cao Cuong - Principal of Thai Thinh Secondary School (Hanoi) - emphasized that parents need to be aware of the crowd effect in extra teaching and learning today.
It is very worrying that if students are doing very normally, they have to run around everywhere to find more complete writing classes or do calculations beyond blocks - Mr. Cuong shared.
When deciding to let his children study at the center, Mr. Cuong advised parents to answer the following questions: Who is the teacher who teaches children? Do their children really need to take extra classes and what is the use of learning those things?
On the side of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), Mr. Thai Van Tai - Director of the Department of Primary Education - affirmed that when Circular 29 is seriously implemented, the number of extra classes at the centers will only be for those with real needs, no longer as widespread as at present.
The truth is, if we do well and are determined in the content of extra teaching and learning, certainly not every teacher will be able to teach extra. At this time, only prestigious, capable and truly invested teachers can attract students. And the subjects of extra classes will be extremely small" - Mr. Tai shared.
Currently, the content of the test and final exam is only in the core curriculum. Therefore, parents do not need to worry about their children lacking knowledge if they do not attend extra classes. When students have special desires such as taking the entrance exam to a specialized school or a new exam, they need to go to the center.
Mr. Tai also said that the school will carry out the task of supporting weak, poor or good students in need. Therefore, parents do not need to rush to the centers.
From this, Mr. Thai Van Tai commented that tightening and doing well the main school hours as well as the inspection and assessment work will contribute to reducing the need for extra classes at the centers.
Mr. Tai also noted: "The wish of Circular 29 is to reduce the need for extra classes. If we do not manage well, the centers will continue to grow, and the need for extra classes or extra classes will increase.
