Although there is still more than a month until the Lunar New Year holiday, many transportation companies have early implemented discount programs to support students and workers in difficult circumstances to return to their hometowns for Tet.
Information from Vietnam Railways Corporation said that the railway industry has organized the widespread sale of Tet Nguyen Dan Binh Ngo 2026 train tickets on all distribution channels. Passengers can buy tickets through the railway industry website, at stations, ticket sales points, agents, as well as through applications and electronic wallets such as MoMo, VNPay, ZaloPay, ViettelPay, banking application (Smart Banking), train ticket sales app on mobile devices. In addition, passengers can contact the Saigon station ticket sales switchboard (1900 1520) and Hanoi station (1900 0109).
Accordingly, the railway industry applies discounts from 10% to 20% of ticket prices for students of universities, academies, colleges, vocational secondary schools and vocational training institutions.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of Vietnam Railways Corporation said that during the 2026 Binh Ngo Lunar New Year, the railway industry continues to implement ticket price reductions for social policy beneficiaries such as Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, wounded soldiers, people infected with toxic chemicals, people with severe disabilities, the elderly, children from 6 to under 10 years old, students and passengers with customer cards. Each passenger only enjoys the highest preferential discount rate, not applied cumulatively.
For students, according to current regulations, a 10% discount is applied throughout the learning process. Especially during the 2026 Binh Ngo Lunar New Year, students traveling by train during peak times will receive a discount of up to 20% on ticket prices.
Not only the railway industry, many fixed-route passenger transport businesses also proactively develop plans to support students and poor workers to return home for Tet. Representatives of Ha Son Hai Van bus company said that the company maintains a ticket discount program for students throughout the year. For those in particularly difficult circumstances, the company will have separate support policies during Tet.
Meanwhile, Mr. Do Van Bang - owner of Sao Viet bus company (running the Hanoi - Sa Pa - Lao Cai route and vice versa) said that right from the beginning of the school year, the company has reduced ticket prices by 30% for students throughout their studies. Students only need to bring their student card and citizen identification card to the company office to complete procedures, and will enjoy this preferential level for 4-5 years of study.
It is expected that during the 2026 Lunar New Year, the airline will exempt 100% of ticket prices for poor students in particularly difficult circumstances. In addition, we are also supporting 100% of ticket prices for patients with dangerous diseases such as cancer and dialysis when going to Hanoi for treatment," Mr. Bang added.
