Before their first year, many new students begin to find accommodation, balance finances, and learn about the university environment to soon adapt to independent life.

Prepare accommodation, balance expenses for the first year

After completing admission procedures, many new students begin to prepare for university life, from arranging accommodation, balancing spending to learning about the new learning environment.

Nguyen Quynh Anh - a new student at Hanoi Capital University, from Phu Tho - said that before enrolling, she and her family spent a lot of time looking for a room. After consulting some locations, the female student chose a room with a price suitable for her family's financial capacity and convenient for travel.

This is the first time I have lived far from home, so I was quite worried when looking for a room. I prioritize places with security, near schools and clear electricity, water, and internet costs. After choosing a room, I started calculating what else I need to buy" - Quynh Anh shared.

According to the female student, there are quite a lot of expenses to prepare in the early stages, from room rent, deposit money to the cost of buying household items. Therefore, she tries to limit buying items that are not really necessary.

Instead of buying all the new items, Quynh Anh plans to bring some personal items from home, and will not buy more bulky things or things available in the rented room. This method helps female students save some expenses before starting their student life.

For Do Xuan Thanh (Dong Anh commune, Hanoi) - a new student at a university in Hanoi - said that initially he planned not to rent a room but to go back and forth between home and school.

Thanh said that this method helps him save costs in the early stages. After getting acquainted with the study schedule and travel, the male student considered whether he needed to rent a room or not.

My house is about 20km from school, so in the beginning I will go back and forth. I want to get used to the schedule in advance, if travel is convenient, I will continue to stay at home" - Thanh shared.

Besides, Thanh also proactively learns about the school, study schedule and how to register for modules through the website, student groups and shares of senior students so as not to be too surprised when entering the first year.

Worried but excited about the new life

Le Ngoc Han (Vinh Thanh commune, Hanoi) - a new student at a university in Hanoi - said that she is both excited to enter a new environment and a little worried because it is the first time she has to be more independent.

Han's house is about 21km from school, so travel is also something that female students must consider before enrolling.

I look forward to the day of enrollment but I am also a little worried because everything at home has been supported by my parents. Going to university, I have to take care of my own food, travel, study and manage expenses" - Han said.

To prepare for student life, Han and her family agreed on a fixed monthly expense. The female student plans to record the used amounts, limit unnecessary shopping and save a portion for incurred expenses.

Besides, I also plan to find a part-time job near the school to have more income and reduce living expenses" - Han shared.

In addition to calculating expenses, Han also learns about activities for first-year students in advance. The female student plans to join the club, actively get to know new friends and arrange reasonable extra time so as not to affect her studies.
