Floods recede, schools are devastated
The flood caused severe damage to many communes in the western part of Nghe An, of which My Ly commune was the most severely damaged.
My Ly 2 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities was also not affected by the flood.
On the morning of July 26, sharing photos of the damage to the school, Mr. Tran Sy Ha - Principal of the school choked up as he recounted the damage to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper.

According to Mr. Ha, after many floods, the school's 2-storey classrooms have never been flooded up to the 2nd floor. Therefore, before this flood, the school moved assets, machinery, school supplies, records, books... to the 2nd floor and thought that would be safe.
However, right after the flood, Mr. Ha alone drove a motorbike into the school to check. From his home in Huu Kiem commune to school with a distance of 75km, Mr. Ha only rode his motorbike about 30km and then left his motorbike on foot through a series of landslides that caused isolation.
Every time he passed through each landslide, Mr. Ha walked and asked people in many different villages to carry him to which section or that section.

"When I arrived at the center of My Ly commune, I was still about 7km from school. Here, landslides buried the road, so I had to climb the forest to get to school on foot. When I saw the school flooded with mud up to the 2nd floor, my property was swept away, I could not hold back my tears, Mr. Ha shared.
According to Mr. Ha, the floodwater this time was increased from the 2nd floor to more than 1 m, this was the biggest flood, causing the biggest damage to the school.

All 12 televisions, 5 refrigerators, 22 computers for teaching, all tables and chairs of 7 classes; 1.7 tons of rice reserved for boarding students, books, personal items of the students and even blankets, cabinets... of boarding teachers were swept away and damaged.
According to Mr. Ha, the flood receded, destroying most of the school's assets but leaving behind a "huge" amount of mud and soil in the school's campus with an area of 5,300m2, over 3m high.
"The water was up to the 2nd floor, so the 2nd floor floor was also filled with thick mud," Mr. Ha shared.

According to Mr. Ha, from tomorrow, the school will mobilize teachers to clean up, including some teachers from lowland areas who are on summer vacation and call on parents and armed forces to help clear thousands of cubic meters of mud from the school.
