Due to the impact of heavy rain lasting for a long time on the night of July 25 and early morning of July 26, the water in the stream in Muong Pon commune, Dien Bien province changed the flow, causing local flooding, affecting the lives and property of some households in Co Chan 1 and Co Chan 2 villages.
According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper at the scene, the heavy rain caused the stream water to overflow into the houses and properties of some households along the stream and onto National Highway 12.


Mr. Vi Van Hoa (25 years old, Co Chan 1 village, Muong Pon commune) - said: "The floodwaters rose so quickly that my family could not react. The entire flock of about 50 chickens and ducks and 2 pigs died. The fish pond was also completely lost".
Mr. Hoa added that even in the historic flash flood at the end of July 2024, his house was only slightly flooded.


According to Mr. Lo Van Tien (Co Chu 2 version) at around 0:30 on July 26, while he was sleeping, he heard the roaring water. Looking outside, I see that the water has risen, even overflooding the stilt house.
It is estimated that his family's fish pond alone has caused about 7 million VND in damage, in addition to some auxiliary works.


According to the leader of Muong Pon commune, after receiving the report, local forces were mobilized in the two villages of Co Run 1 and Co Run 2 to help people overcome the initial damage.
The leader of Muong Pon commune added that there are many vulnerable points in the area with high risk of landslides, especially in small streams, steep slopes and areas with households living along the stream.
"The commune has proactively mobilized and relocated households in areas at high risk of landslides. At the same time, closely monitor weather forecasts and developments to be proactive in natural disaster prevention and search and rescue work" - Muong Pon commune leader added.
Exactly 1 year ago, the flash flood that occurred on the night of July 24 and early morning of July 25, 2024 in Muong Pon commune, Dien Bien province left 7 people dead and missing. The flash flood also swept away dozens of houses, many houses collapsed and about 100 others were damaged.
