Merging 2 medical colleges into 2 universities
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long has just signed Decisions to merge Thai Nguyen Medical College into Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Hue Medical College into Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Education and Training and the People's Committees of Thai Nguyen province and Hue City People's Committee to direct relevant agencies and units to hand over and receive the personnel, finance, assets, and students of the two colleges to the two universities according to regulations.
The process of merging and reorganizing must ensure normal operations, legitimate and legal rights and interests of the parties involved, and avoid negativity, loss and waste of finance and assets.
The Ministry of Education and Training directs Thai Nguyen University and Hue University to guide Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy on training and granting degrees to students studying at the two Colleges according to regulations.
In November, there will be a plan to merge colleges and vocational schools
At the 2025 Vocational Education and Continuing Education Conference, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son informed that the Ministry is developing a project to reorganize and restructure the system of vocational education and continuing education.
Accordingly, the merger and streamlining of focal points will be carried out in the direction of improving quality, avoiding formal things. With more than 800 vocational institutions currently, the orientation is to transfer many focal points to local management, while maintaining key investment for strong schools with a special role.

Regarding the system of the Vocational Education - Vocational Education Centers, the Minister affirmed that it cannot be mechanistically converted to a vocational secondary school model. This model will be implemented separately for postgraduate students, in order to effectively regulate traffic. vocational education and training centers - Vocational education and training centers need to gradually return to their correct training function, fostering skills for adults.
The Minister said that in November, the Ministry will have a specific plan on the arrangement of colleges and vocational schools and will soon collect opinions from vocational training institutions to have orientation.
5 localities plan to merge many universities and colleges
Previously, the provinces and cities: Ho Chi Minh City, Thanh Hoa, Phu Tho, Ha Tinh and Ca Mau proposed to merge dozens of universities, colleges and many secondary schools, in order to streamline the network of educational institutions according to the Government's orientation.
In Ho Chi Minh City, it is expected that about 30 colleges and secondary schools will be rearranged; establish 2 schools, Saigontourist College of Tourism - Hotel and Ho Chi Minh City College of Agriculture and High Technology.
At the university level, Ho Chi Minh City proposed to keep Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine and Thu Dau Mot University. Saigon University will be reorganized on the basis of merging with Ba Ria - Vung Tau Pedagogical College under the name Saigon University.
The Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province proposed to merge Thanh Hoa University of Culture - Sports - Tourism into Hong Duc University to reduce the number of higher education institutions.
4 other schools proposed to be merged are Thanh Hoa Industrial College, Nghi Son Vocational College, Bim Son Vocational College and Thanh Hoa Technology.
In Ha Tinh, the province proposed to continue researching the merger of Ha Tinh University into a member university of Hanoi National University or under the new direction of the Ministry of Education and Training.
In the field of vocational education, the province proposed to keep 8 Vocational Education - Continuing Education Centers and 5 vocational schools.
After the arrangement, Phu Tho province has 1 university, 1 medical college, 3 vocational colleges, reducing 4 colleges.
The People's Committee of Ca Mau province plans to merge Ca Mau Medical College and Bac Lieu Medical College into Ca Mau Medical College.
Merge Vietnam - Korea Ca Mau Vocational College and Bac Lieu Vocational College into Vietnam - Korea Ca Mau Vocational College.
Merge Ca Mau Community College and Bac Lieu College of Economics and Technology into Ca Mau College.
This province proposes a plan to keep Bac Lieu University in its current state.
