Nguyen Trung Thai Son is a student of the Informatics specialized class, High School for Gifted Students, University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
In the recent high school graduation exam, Thai Son achieved 29.75 points in 3 subjects of block A01 (Math, Physics, English). In which, Math, Physics he got 10, English achieved 9.75.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien - Thai Son's mother - said that immediately after the exam ended, Thai Son compared the answers announced online and scored himself. The self-scoring results coincided with the official exam score.

Although knowing that my child did well on the test, the family did not dare to think that my child would be the valedictorian. When the official results came, the whole family was very happy because my child's efforts were recognized" - Ms. Hien said.
Thai Son is in a specialized Informatics class and used to be in the national excellent student recruitment team for Informatics of the school. However, according to his family, the results in the graduation exam did not come from the final review stage but were the result of a whole process of accumulating knowledge.
The family always believes that a solid foundation must be built from the beginning. When they have good knowledge, when the exam comes, their children will not have to bear too much pressure. We always orient our children to study evenly, accumulate every day instead of focusing on the final stage" - Ms. Hien shared.
During his studies, Son's father - currently working at a university - is the person who regularly exchanges, orients and accompanies his son in professional matters. Ms. Hien, a music teacher, mainly monitors, encourages and observes his son's learning process.
The family also does not create pressure about scores or achievements. Instead, when parents notice that their child has limitations or signs of deviation, they will discuss and adjust together.
You are like a young tree, you need to be shaped in the process of maturity. The important thing is to always accompany you so that you can promote your strengths" - Ms. Hien said.
After comparing the answers, Son determined that he lost 0.25 points in English because he did not know an idiom.
During the exam preparation period, the male student spends most of his time self-taught. In addition to about one class with teachers each week, Son actively searches for materials, downloads exam questions online and practices on his own.
Although he loves Informatics, his family realizes that during his time studying for the national team, Son spent too much time in front of computers. After many exchanges, the whole family agreed to let him study Mathematics first because this is both a strength and an important foundation for the field of Informatics.
According to the registered aspiration for admission, Thai Son plans to register aspiration 1 for the Mathematics major, an English-taught program of Hanoi National University of Education.
Besides studying, Son is encouraged by his family to maintain balance in life. The male student plays the piano to relax after stressful study hours, while still participating in cooking, cleaning, helping with housework and spending time exercising.
According to Ms. Hien, Son is an introverted person, rarely participates in outside activities, and spends most of his time studying and researching. It is his perseverance, self-learning ability and knowledge base accumulated over many years that helped the male student conquer the position of valedictorian A01 nationwide this year.
