Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Duyen has a bachelor's degree in English, full-time, but wants to teach Chinese at secondary school.
Ms. Duyen asked: "I am studying a second degree in Chinese, distance learning, and studying Chinese language pedagogy. Am I qualified to teach?"
The Ministry of Education and Training responded to this issue on the Government Electronic Information Portal as follows:
The standards for training qualifications of Grade III Secondary School Teachers (code V.07.04.32) are implemented according to the provisions of Point a, Clause 3, Article 3 of Circular No. 03/2021/TT-BGDDT, specifically as follows:
"Have a bachelor's degree or higher in teacher training for junior high school teachers. In case the subject does not have enough teachers with a bachelor's degree in teacher training, they must have a bachelor's degree in a relevant major and a certificate of pedagogical training for junior high school teachers according to the program issued by the Minister of Education and Training".
Therefore, if Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Duyen wants to become a Chinese teacher at a secondary school, she must have a bachelor's degree or higher in Chinese Pedagogy or a bachelor's degree or higher in a major suitable for teaching Chinese at the secondary school level (such as Chinese Language or Chinese Studies) and a certificate of pedagogical training for those with a bachelor's degree in a major suitable for becoming a secondary school teacher.
