On November 15, Foreign Trade University (FTU) held a ceremony to celebrate its 65th anniversary. Thousands of former teachers and former students returned to school to attend the ceremony.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Huong - Principal of the school - expressed his emotion when welcoming teachers and generations of alumni back to attend the program to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the school's founding.
Foreign Trade University is one of the first schools to pilot autonomy in the Vietnamese higher education system and according to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Huong, on the development journey, the school has encountered many difficulties and also had to pay a lot.
According to Ms. Huong, to have the Foreign Trade brand recognized by society as it is today, the school is always deeply aware that it is the result of persistent efforts through many generations of teachers and students, who have overcome many difficulties and challenges to cultivate the courage, spirit and "quality" of Foreign Trade.
Ms. Huong hopes that in the coming time, the school will continue to receive trust and support on the journey to realize the aspiration to turn Foreign Trade University into one of the leading universities in Asia.
The school will be a place to respect academic freedom, encourage creative research, develop training models associated with critical thinking and the ability to master the setting, overcome prejudices about educational values, nurture dreams and ambitions, and work towards positive impacts and sustainable development.
Ms. Le Thu Ly, a former student of Course 12, Interview 2, Foreign Trade University, expressed her joy at meeting her old friend today. Her course has about 40 - 50 people out of a total of 120 students attending the entire course.
In Ms. Thu Ly's memory, the old Foreign Trade University was just a level 4 building. Overseas students have to stay as boardors, despite difficult conditions, but they are very happy.
Learning is fun, now it's a joint professional school, now it's a separate foreign language program. Life is miserable but we love each other. We are very competitive, very good. At school, our class is called "big brother" because we work well, study well, and everyone is successful after graduation" - Ms. Thu said.
Mr. Vu Dao (68 years old), currently Head of the 15th Communications Department, expressed his emotion when seeing modern facilities today, from high-rise buildings to spacious learning spaces. He hopes that current and future generations of students who enjoy outstanding learning conditions will strive to achieve many successes.
Foreign Trade University was officially established in 1960 and was originally a department in the Faculty of International Relations directly managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but located at the University of Economics and Finance.
In the Faculty of International Relations, there are 2 subjects: Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Trade. Course 1 of the Ministry of Foreign Trade was recruited in the 1960-1961 school year with 42 students.
After a period of continuous development, Foreign Trade University currently has a head office in Hanoi; campus 2 is located in Ho Chi Minh City and 1 campus is located in Quang Ninh.
In addition to international university training, Foreign Trade University is training 4 doctoral programs and 11 master's programs in research and application orientations. The school's training scale is more than 1,600 masters and more than 120 doctors.
