Many controversies during the admission season
More than a day has passed since receiving information that her child has been admitted to the University of Economics, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Ms. Thu Ha (Cau Giay, Hanoi) is busy preparing documents and documents for her child to complete the final stages of admission.
"This year's admission season has many shortcomings, from each school having a formula for converting points, causing students to be passive in admission, to the Ministry of Education and Training suddenly delaying the announcement time for the standard scores this year. The Ministry changed the schedule at the last minute, while the school admission schedule was fixed, causing parents to prepare their documents diligently" - Ms. Ha expressed.
A university admission officer in the Northern region admitted that this year, the virtual filtering system has continuously failed, unable to stabilize in the first times of virtual filtering due to too much data being put into the system, causing this process to increase from 6 to 10 times. This makes candidates worried, schools are passive.
Not only did the virtual filter process encounter technical errors, the conversion of benchmark scores also caused controversy. Each school has a way of converting, a system of reference, and the way of doing things also lacks unity and synchronization.
Adjustment after announcing the benchmark score
Not only the problems with virtual filtering, announcing benchmarks, or registering wishes..., this year's admission season also surprised many people because many universities had to issue notices to adjust and correct admission information.
For example, at Hanoi Capital University, immediately after announcing the standard university admission score for the 2025 system, the school announced that the admission score based on the C00 combination from the high school exam score increased by 0.75 compared to the original.
According to the school's explanation, other combinations of the C00 group are added 0.75 points on a 30-point scale after this school determined the difference in points between the C00 group and other admission combinations with the high school graduation exam score method and this information has been widely published.
However, the announcement in 2 documents and 2 notices was not consecutive, causing misunderstanding to parents, thereby creating bad public opinion.
"The school has severely criticized the individuals in charge and seriously learned from experience" - the school affirmed.
Or at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, on the afternoon of August 24, this school announced additional criteria with standard scores, in the method of considering high school graduation exam scores and HSA competency assessment scores.
For example, the benchmark score for the Journalism major is 28.2 with additional criteria of 4 or higher. If they achieve the standard score but set their wishes below 4, the candidate will not be admitted.
The school said that this year, due to the system being overloaded, after the general virtual filter was completed, the schools received new results for self-review. The school added additional criteria to help parents and students better understand.
Admissions need to be more transparent and stable
From the above incidents and shortcomings, many experts believe that it is necessary to draw lessons soon to adjust the enrollment policy to make it more suitable. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc, University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, said that it is necessary to re-evaluate the use of geodesy in scoring. If it continues to be applied, the Ministry of Education and Training needs to provide specific instructions, publicize the conversion method and organize training for teachers and students to understand clearly to avoid misunderstandings.
Dr. Hoang Ngoc Vinh said that to effectively implement enrollment autonomy, the Ministry still needs to establish a unified technical reference framework, while building a centralized lookup portal - where all schools must fully update the conversion method and equivalent scoring threshold.
