According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the entrance exam for grade 10 in Ho Chi Minh City for the 2026-2027 school year is expected to still include 3 subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language.
It is known that before the merger, all three provinces of Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City chose Math, Literature and Foreign Language as the 3 subjects for the public grade 10 entrance exam.
Previously, the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City announced the conclusion of Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Director of the Department at the meeting after the merger.
In particular, Mr. Hieu has issued instructions related to the work of enrolling in grade 10 in Ho Chi Minh City (new) for the 2026-2027 school year, requesting the Department of Public Education and the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Quality Management to advise on the 10th grade enrollment plan for the 2026-2027 school year as early as September 2025 so that students and teachers of educational institutions know and orient their teaching and learning.
At the same time, the Department Office is required to preside over the development of a plan to determine the orientation of all educational institutions in the city to prepare for the enrollment of first-level classes for the 2026-2027 school year.
According to the regulations on junior high school and high school admissions announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, provinces can choose to take entrance exams, consider admission to grade 10 or a combination. For the entrance exam, the exam includes Math, Literature and the third subject (or combined exam).
The third subject is selected by the Department of Education and Training from subjects assessed by scores, including: Foreign Language 1, Civic Education, Natural Sciences, History and Geography, Technology, and Information Technology. However, provinces and cities have not chosen a third exam subject for more than three consecutive years.
