According to the National Traffic Safety Committee, during the 9 days of the Lunar New Year holiday, there were a total of 30 calls and messages from people to the hotline of the National Traffic Safety Committee, mainly focusing on peak days (the 26th of Tet and the 3rd and 4th of Tet) when people return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet and the days after Tet when people return to the city to live and work.
The complaints mainly focused on increasing parking fees, not wearing helmets, running red lights, going the wrong way, carrying more passengers than allowed, and traffic jams. The calls were forwarded to the authorities for verification and timely handling.
According to the National Traffic Safety Committee, the traffic accident situation is as follows:
Traffic accidents on the 5th day of the Lunar New Year At Ty (February 2, 2025), nationwide, 34 traffic accidents occurred, killing 18 people and injuring 19 people. Compared to the 5th day of the Lunar New Year Giap Thin 2024, there were 29 fewer accidents, 17 fewer deaths, and 31 fewer injuries.
During the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday of At Ty 2025, according to the report of the Office of the Ministry of Public Security, there were 445 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 209 people and injuring 373 people. Compared to the same period of the Lunar New Year holiday of Giap Thin 2024, there were 258 fewer cases, 126 fewer deaths, and 232 fewer injuries.
The Traffic Safety Committee assessed that during the Lunar New Year 2025, traffic safety was basically ensured. Compared to the same period of the Lunar New Year 2024, traffic accident data decreased sharply in all three criteria of number of cases, number of deaths and number of injuries. In particular, violations of alcohol concentration regulations continued to decrease sharply compared to previous years.
The above results were achieved thanks to the early and drastic direction of the Prime Minister, Government leaders and the work of developing plans and implementing tasks to ensure traffic safety and passenger transport was carried out early in all areas; inspection and supervision work was strengthened, especially at the peak time before Tet with the coordination between the police, traffic inspectors, port authorities and local authorities.
The Ministry of Public Security has strongly directed the Traffic Police and local Police to increase 100% of the number of personnel on duty and patrol, control and handle traffic safety violations, especially handling the topics of alcohol concentration, speed, and drugs throughout the Lunar New Year. These solutions have greatly contributed to reducing traffic accidents during the Tet holiday.
