AI Camera Tights Traffic Violation Management in Hanoi

According to the project approved by the Hanoi People's Committee, the city will install more than 40,000 cameras on traffic routes, of which about 16,000 cameras serve state management of traffic safety, environment and urban order. The implementation will be carried out in the period of 2025 - 2030.

The AI camera system helps reduce the burden on authorities, while increasing transparency in handling violations, aiming to build Hanoi into a smart, safe and civilized city.

The cameras are equipped with the ability to scan 360 degrees, recognize the face and license plate of the vehicle at a distance of 500-700m. Hanoi City Police said that when the system is completed by the end of this year, many routes will not need to have traffic police on duty regularly as before.

In addition to the traffic monitoring function, the system can also detect and analyze violations of environmental sanitation, encroachment on sidewalks, dumping garbage in the wrong place... Image data is transmitted directly to the Command Center, where it is analyzed, handled and sent to vehicle owners via the VNeID application, VNeTraffic or through local police.

Violations recorded by the automatic system include: not wearing a helmet, driving in the wrong lane, stopping and parking in the wrong lane, not obeying traffic lights, speeding, driving in the wrong direction, entering prohibited roads, carrying more people, not wearing seat belts, using phones while driving, etc.

In particular, the system integrates the function of intelligent traffic control, automatically adjusting traffic lights according to vehicle volume in real time, contributing to reducing congestion and ensuring smooth traffic. AI cameras also support facial recognition, helping to quickly detect wanted or suspected subjects, and send immediate warnings to the Command Center.
