On December 10, Minister of Transport Tran Hong Minh inspected the construction organization of the North-South Expressway project in the East phase 2021-2025, Can Tho - Ca Mau section (Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway) at IC2 intersection (Cai Rang district, Can Tho city), the starting point of the project.
At the inspection, Minister of Transport Tran Hong Minh commended the units for their efforts in overcoming difficulties arising during the project implementation process, especially regarding sand material sources.
The Minister of Transport directed contractors to increase machinery, equipment, and human resources to drastically implement construction, not only ensuring progress but also exceeding the set plan, bringing the project to the finish line soon.
The Minister of Transport suggested that when completing the sand loading of the roadbed, the comrades should arrange the vehicle system, spread out horizontally, and move continuously on the roadbed. Thus, the load is evenly distributed, which will increase the stability of the roadbed. After checking and assessing that the roadbed settlement has stabilized, continue to load the stone layer and proceed to asphalt. Thus, we can be completely assured of the quality of the project.
To ensure synchronous completion with the main route, Minister of Transport Tran Hong Minh requested contractors to proactively organize simultaneous construction of the frontage road system, intersections, traffic safety system items, railings, expansion joints, sidewalks, etc.
Regarding sand and stone materials, Minister of Transport Tran Hong Minh said that we must proactively gather them at the construction site and complete each section. At the same time, we must urgently complete all bridges on the main route, so that the 110km Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway can be opened to traffic as soon as possible in 2025.
Mr. Tran Van Thi - Director of My Thuan Project Management Board (investor) said that the total construction output of the project reached 53%, 100% of the site clearance work has been completed. Currently, there are 200m remaining within the connecting route in Can Tho City due to the landfill. It is expected that the relocation will be completed before December 31.
Regarding sand material sources, localities have supported 20 river sand mines and two sea sand mines with a total reserve of about 25 million m3, while the project's demand is about 18.6 million m3. Thus, the sand material source has been basically guaranteed.
In addition, out of a total of 117 bridges on the main route, contractors have completed the decks of 45 bridges. Of these, six large bridges have been technically opened to traffic.
The Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway is over 110km long with a total investment of over VND 27,500 billion, started in January 2023 and completed at the end of 2025. The project is divided into two component projects. Of which, the Can Tho - Hau Giang section is over 37km long, with a total investment of over VND 10,370 billion. The Hau Giang - Ca Mau section is over 73km long, with a total investment of over VND 17,152 billion.
