On April 26, the People's Council of Da Nang City officially approved the report of the City People's Committee on the project related to the arrangement of the provincial administrative unit. The new city named Da Nang and the administrative center of the new city is located in Hai Chau district, the center of Da Nang currently.
The new Da Nang city has a natural area of over 11,867 km2 and a population of over 3 million people with 94 commune-level administrative units, including 23 wards, 70 communes and Hoang Sa special zone.
The selection of Danang's name for the new city is stipulated in Article 7 of Resolution 76/2025 of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly and Decision 759 of the Prime Minister on arranging administrative units. At the same time, Da Nang has built a strong brand, a dynamic and modern urban area, and is the leading economic, cultural and tourism center of the Central - Central Highlands and the whole country. Keeping the name of Da Nang will help strengthen the position of the city, attract investment, and improve competitiveness.
Da Nang is also a famous tourism brand with scenic spots such as My Khe beach, Ngu Hanh Son, Da Nang ancient citadel and Linh Ung pagoda. Keeping the name of Da Nang will help exploit the maximum tourism and service potential, contributing to the economic development of the region. Choosing one of two pre-existing names will minimize the impact on people and businesses in converting documents, updating geographical information and related administrative procedures.
The selection of Da Nang as the administrative center is based on Decision 759 of the Prime Minister. Da Nang used to be the administrative center of Quang Nam - Da Nang province after 1975, with a long history and experience in this role. The city owns a synchronous and modern transport infrastructure, including a system of seaports, railways, roads and international airports, facilitating domestic and international connectivity, promoting import-export activities of the entire new province.
According to the report of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, the opinions of the two local people also strongly supported this project. In Da Nang, out of 224,259 voters representing households, 223,000 voters participated in collecting comments, reaching 99.44%. Among them, 222,482 voters approved the merger and name of Da Nang, reaching 99.77%.
In Quang Nam, 424,060 out of a total of 428,270 voters representing households participated in collecting opinions, reaching a rate of 99.02%, with 421,940 voters in favor of the merger, reaching a rate of 98.52%.
