On August 23, the Traffic Maintenance Management Board of the Department of Construction of Quang Tri province confirmed that after a period of stagnation due to lack of capital, the project to build a flood overpass on Provincial Road 586 has resumed construction.
Accordingly, implementing the direction of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee on supplementing capital sources, the Department of Finance has balanced and advised the Provincial People's Committee to allocate funds for the project. As soon as capital was available, the Traffic Maintenance Management Board requested the contractor to focus on human resources, equipment and materials to speed up the progress.
"Currently, floodgates, machinery, vehicles and materials have been gathered at the construction site, the unit is striving to complete the project on schedule by October 2025" - Mr. Hoang Anh Quang, Director of the Traffic Maintenance Management Board said.
Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, Provincial Road 586 connecting National Highway 9 with the center of Lie commune (Quang Tri) is a vital traffic route, serving socio-economic development and rescue in the western border area. However, in recent years, this route has been often cut off due to culverts and spillways that are often deeply flooded during the rainy season. To overcome this, Quang Tri province has started construction of 2 flood bridges since August 2024, with a total investment of 26.8 billion VND, nearly 730m long.
Although the main structure of the bridge has been completed with a construction value of about 10.3 billion VND, the project is stalled due to lack of capital for the approach roads at both ends of the bridge, the embankment and auxiliary works.
In response to this information, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the urgent allocation of capital, and at the same time requested construction units to carry out "3 shifts, 4 teams", strictly handling cases that do not meet the schedule. The People's Committee of lia commune is also required to promptly complete site clearance work, coordinate with the investor to ensure security and order, and create favorable conditions for the project to be completed in 2025.
