Present at the Kim Dong - Giai Phong underpass construction site (Hoang Mai district, Hanoi) in early November 2024, Lao Dong reporters recorded dozens of workers busy constructing the closed and open tunnel areas in the direction of Kim Dong - Giai Phong street.
Mr. Ho Duc Phuc - Director of Kim Dong Tunnel Management Board - said that after 2 years of construction, the project has completed 50% of the volume according to schedule. In which, the Dam Hong tunnel has basically completed the access road, open tunnel, and tunnel structure.
"Taking advantage of favorable weather, the contractor increased workers, engineers, and machinery to focus on the new construction phase in Kim Dong, speeding up the project's progress," said Mr. Phuc.
Mr. Phuc added that Kim Dong currently has no problems with the ground. However, to open the tunnel, the 35kV power line in the railway needs to be removed before the temporary bridge and rails can be deployed to serve the main structure of the tunnel.
However, the investor, the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, has yet to relocate or hand over the site to the project. Meanwhile, Dam Hong is stuck with a house and two transformer stations.
"The contractor hopes that the problems will be resolved soon so that construction can be carried out simultaneously across the entire project," said Mr. Phuc.
The Kim Dong - Giai Phong underpass construction project started in October 2022 with a scale of 4 lanes. The project has a total investment of 778 billion VND, expected to be completed after 3 years.
When completed, the underpass will help overcome traffic congestion between Ring Road 2.5 and Giai Phong Street, gradually completing the Ring Road 2.5 route according to the approved plan, ensuring smooth traffic through Giap Bat freight station.
