On September 30, according to the Department of Transport of Quang Tri province, in the locality, especially in mountainous districts with steep terrain, complex geology, dense, short and steep river systems. Through recent floods, spillway works on many district and commune roads were flooded with an average water level of 1-1.2m, in some places 5-7m deep.
The flooding of the bridges has caused traffic jams, completely cutting off localities in the districts, especially the mountainous areas of Quang Tri province. This has affected travel, transportation of goods, the lives of ethnic minorities and especially made rescue and relief work difficult when floods occur.
According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Son - Deputy Director of the Department of Transport of Quang Tri province, there are currently 62 bridges under local management that "flood during storms", of which 41 bridges are in the mountainous districts of Huong Hoa and Dakrong.
For example, from Thanh commune to Xy commune (Huong Hoa district), there are 3 small spillways, which are flooded 5 times a year on average with water levels ranging from 1 to 3.5 meters, isolating some villages of the Van Kieu - Pa Co ethnic minority people. Currently, whenever there is heavy rain and flooding, the border guards, police, and military have to assign people to guard and place warning signs to prevent people from passing through...
It is known that during the inspection and direction of storm prevention work No. 4, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province requested the provincial Department of Transport and localities to review bridges that are frequently flooded.
According to calculations by the Department of Transport of Quang Tri province, it will cost about VND141 billion to invest in building overpass bridges to replace the 62 above-mentioned spillways. The Department also recommended that the People's Committee of Quang Tri province consider supplementing the medium-term public investment capital for the period 2026-2030 from annual flood and storm recovery funds and other legal sources to soon invest in building overpass bridges.
