Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee has just issued a decision approving the investment policy for the DT623B bridge and road project through Thach Nham dam with a total capital of 350 billion VND, replacing the degraded Thach Nham spillway bridge.
According to the decision, the project has a total length of nearly 2 km, of which the reinforced concrete bridge over the Tra Khuc River is 530 m long, and the access roads at both ends of the bridge are more than 1.4 km long. The bridge deck is 15 m wide, including two lanes for motorized vehicles and two lanes for rudimentary vehicles on both sides.

The project has a total investment of 350 billion VND, of which the central budget supports about 300 billion VND, and the rest is from the Quang Ngai provincial budget.
The Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transport Works of Quang Ngai province is assigned to be the investor. Implementation time from 2026 - 2029 in Tra Giang, Truong Giang and Son Ha communes.
According to the approved plan, the new Thach Nham bridge will be built about 500 m downstream from the existing spillway bridge.
The approach roads at both ends of the bridge have also been adjusted in direction to eliminate sharp curves, contributing to improving exploitation capacity, ensuring traffic safety and shortening the length of the route.

Thach Nham spillway bridge was built more than 30 years ago on DT623B road, a vital traffic route connecting the delta region with mountainous communes of Quang Ngai province.
However, for many years, this area has deteriorated, and people and vehicles are frequently swept away by water during the rainy and flood season, causing many deaths.
After the prolonged rain and flood in October and November 2025, many locations of the spillway north of Thach Nham bridge were seriously damaged, concrete was swept away, deep holes appeared and the embankment foundation was eroded.
To maintain temporary traffic, the management unit has mobilized machinery to level the ground, creating conditions for motorbikes to circulate through this area.
