On the journey from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi on the evening of January 10, 2026, Thong Nhat SE4 passenger train promptly supported a pregnant woman to give birth safely on the train thanks to the quick coordination of the train crew and medical-specialized passengers.
Information from Vietnam Railways Corporation said that train SE4 is in charge of train chief Tran Van Tri, departing from Saigon station on January 9. When the train passed through the Vinh - Thanh Hoa section, at about 11:05 pm on January 10, the cabin attendant of car number 10 reported that a female passenger showed signs of labor.
The passenger is Ms. Le Thi Tuyet Ngan, sleeper ticket number 26, station to Saigon, station to Hanoi. Immediately after receiving the information, the train crew quickly approached, visited and supported. Mr. Nguyen Anh Hoang - Ms. Ngan's husband - said that his wife is 34 weeks pregnant and requested to get off at the nearest station to take her to the hospital.
Train captain Tran Van Tri reported on the Hanoi train schedule, asking to stop the train at Cau Giat station (Nghe An) to take the pregnant woman to the emergency room. However, when the train was about to enter the station, Ms. Ngan went into labor and gave birth right on board.
The train crew coordinated with medical professionals to support the pregnant woman to give birth to a baby boy weighing about 2.1kg safely. Both mother and child were healthy in the joy and emotion of the family and staff on board.
To ensure the health of the pregnant woman and newborn, the train crew continued to report the condition and stopped the train at Cau Giat station at 23:34 on the same day, taking the mother and child to a local hospital for monitoring and medical care.
