Double expansion of Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway
The 55km long Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, including 4 lanes, has been put into operation since 2016 with a total investment of more than VND 20,600 billion.
However, after nearly a decade of use, the traffic volume on this route has increased by an average of 10.45%/year, causing the section from An Phu intersection to Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway intersection to exceed 25% of its capacity, causing serious congestion.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, to solve this situation, the expressway expansion project is divided into two sections.
Section 1 (from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2, 3.2km long) implemented by Ho Chi Minh City, was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in July 2024.
This expressway will be expanded from 4 to 8 lanes, while expanding Muong Kenh bridge and Do Xuan Hop overpass.
With a total capital of nearly 1,000 billion VND from the Ho Chi Minh City budget, the project is expected to start construction in September 2025 and be completed in 2027.

Section 2 (from Ring Road 2 to Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, about 22km long) will be implemented by the Ministry of Construction with a total capital of about VND15,000 billion.
In particular, the section from Ring Road 2 to Ring Road 3 will be upgraded to 8 lanes; the section from Ring Road 3 to Bien Hoa - Vung Tau intersection will be expanded to 10 lanes.
To speed up progress, the Ministry of Construction has proposed that the Prime Minister assign this ministry as the investor to shorten the implementation time and complete related procedures.
If approved, the project will start construction in the third quarter of 2025 and be basically completed in December 2026.
2,350 billion VND to expand the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway
The Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway expansion project was approved for investment in February 2025.
The project will be implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) method, expected to start construction in the second quarter of 2025 and be completed in 2028.
The total length of the expanded route is about 98km, divided into two parts. The Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway will be upgraded to 8 lanes, with 2 additional emergency lanes.
The Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway, including My Thuan 2 Bridge, will be expanded to 6 lanes and 2 emergency lanes.

To synchronize with this expressway, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that the city will expand two branches of the approach roads: Binh Thuan - Cho Dem 9.5km long) and Tan Tao - Cho Dem 3.7km long.
Both of these routes will meet the scale of 6 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 mixed lanes. Three overpasses on Tran Dai Nghia, Tran Van Giau and Bui Thanh Khiet streets will also be built.
The total investment of the project is about 2,350 billion VND from the Ho Chi Minh City budget.
Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has been assigned the task of preparing for investment, expected to submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for approval and start construction in 2025, to be completed in 2028.
