According to the Ho Chi Minh City Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, recently approved by the Prime Minister, the city's railway network will expand with routes connecting to Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc and Can Tho provinces.
North-South high-speed railway
The North-South high-speed railway line through Ho Chi Minh City is about 14 km long, with a double track standard gauge of 1,435 mm, electrified.
In particular, the Ho Chi Minh City - Nha Trang section is 370 km long. The route starts from Thu Thiem station (Thu Duc city), runs parallel to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway and Dau Giay - Phan Thiet expressway, and ends at Nha Trang station (Khanh Hoa).
Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho route
This railway line is more than 175 km long, with 33.2 km passing through Ho Chi Minh City. The line connects from An Binh station (Di An city, Binh Duong) to Cai Rang station (Can Tho city), using a double track with a gauge of 1,435 mm.
The elevated section along Nguyen Van Linh Street will ensure seamless connection with the North-South route.
Ho Chi Minh City - Loc Ninh route
The railway line from An Binh station (Binh Duong) to the Vietnam - Cambodia border (Hoa Lu border gate, Binh Phuoc) is 128 km long.
Of which, the section from Di An to Chon Thanh will be built with a double track, while the section from Chon Thanh to Loc Ninh will be a single track, with a gauge of 1,435 mm. This route promises to increase trade with Cambodia and the Southeast Asian region.
Ho Chi Minh City - Tay Ninh route
This line connects Tan Chanh Hiep station (District 12) to Trang Bang, Moc Bai and Xa Mat stations in Tay Ninh, with a total length of 139 km.
The 40 km long section from Tan Chanh Hiep station to Trang Bang will be built with double track, 1,435 mm gauge.
Thu Thiem - Long Thanh route
The railway line connecting Thu Thiem station (Thu Duc city) to Long Thanh international airport (Dong Nai), is 37.35 km long.
The route is designed as a 1,435 mm double-track, elevated railway, electrified and is expected to be completed before 2030. This is an important stepping stone to serve the increasing number of passengers at Long Thanh airport.
Dedicated route to Hiep Phuoc port
This dedicated railway line is about 38 km long, connecting directly to Hiep Phuoc port area (Nha Be district). The line will contribute significantly to reducing pressure on road traffic and promoting import and export of goods through the port.
