The latest weekly report of Hanoi Police on the results of handling violations in the field of road and railway traffic shows that from December 12 to 18, the Traffic Police force handled 7,690 cases, fining 11,764,095,000 VND. Notably, alcohol concentration violations still accounted for the highest rate, at 1,227 cases. Among them, there were cases of violations at very high levels.
As of December 16, on the first day of the peak period of restoring order and traffic safety before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025, the working group of Road Traffic Police Team No. 5 (Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police) on duty on Nguyen Van Cu Street (Long Bien District) discovered many violations exceeding the maximum limit. Among them, there was the case of Mr. P.D.L (born in 1978, residing in Long Bien District) driving a motorbike, violating the alcohol concentration level of 0.835 milligrams/liter of breath. Another case was Mr. L.T.T (born in 1973, residing in Viet Hung Ward, Long Bien District) violating the level of 0.936 milligrams/liter of breath (nearly 2.5 times the maximum limit).
According to the commander of Traffic Police Team No. 5, this is not the highest level of violation discovered in the past month, because according to statistics, there have been cases of alcohol concentration violations at levels nearly 10 times higher than the maximum level of violation discovered in Long Bien district.
“The number of violations related to alcohol concentration has decreased significantly compared to before, proving that the propaganda to raise public awareness in recent times has been highly effective. However, recently, many cases of violations related to high alcohol concentration have still been discovered,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ha Tuan Minh, an officer of Traffic Police Team No. 5.
Entering the peak period from December 15, 2024 to February 2025, the handling of alcohol concentration violations will be the focus of Hanoi City Police. During the course of duty, traffic police will check any suspects from cyclists, motorcyclists to car drivers, male or female drivers... there are no forbidden areas or exceptions.
In particular, from January 1, 2025, the implementation of driving license point deduction according to the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 officially takes effect, in which alcohol concentration is one of the violations with the highest point deduction.
Accordingly, the act of driving on the road with a blood or breath alcohol concentration exceeding 50 milligrams to 80 milligrams/100 milliliters of blood or exceeding 0.25 milligrams to 0.4 milligrams/liter of breath will result in a deduction of 10/12 points.
Driving with a blood or breath alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams/100 milliliters of blood, or exceeding 0.4 milligrams/liter of breath, will result in a deduction of 12/12 points, forcing people to retake a test on legal knowledge of road traffic order and safety to have their points restored.
