On December 16, recorded at the beginning of National Highway 15D through Trung An village, My Thuy commune (Quang Tri province) showed the dense density of heavy-duty cars circulating. This is an important residential route, serving the daily travel and transportation needs of local people and goods. However, since the My Thuy Seaport project was implemented, this route has rapidly deteriorated.
Along the route, the road surface has many potholes, some of which have sunk deeply, with peeling asphalt concrete, exposed soil and rocks. When it rains, stagnant water becomes large puddles, mud overflows onto the road, making traffic even more difficult. Motorbikes have to weave around to avoid potholes, cars move slowly, posing a potential risk of traffic accidents, especially at night or when it rains heavily, with limited visibility.
According to observations, most of the vehicles that directly impact the road surface are dump trucks, tractors carrying soil, stone, sand, and construction materials for the My Thuy Port project.
Mr. Tran Van Thang - a resident of Trung An village, said that National Highway 15D is the only route that people in the village have to travel every day. Previously, the road was relatively flat and convenient to travel. Since the port construction trucks have been running continuously, the road has deteriorated rapidly. It is dusty when it is sunny, muddy and slippery when it rains, which is very dangerous for motorcyclists and the elderly and children" - Mr. Thang was upset.
Not only motorbikes, but also cars are facing many difficulties. Mr. Le Khac Truong, a resident of My Thuy village, said that his family often had to travel through this road. "The car was underground so it was very difficult to pass. Many places have deep potholes, if not paying attention, the tunnel will collapse immediately. Before, I used to drive bonsai cars, now I have to go slowly in every section, constantly observing to avoid damaging the vehicle" - Mr. Truong said.
According to the People's Committee of My Thuy commune, the first section of National Highway 15D, about 800m long, is currently damaged and seriously degraded. The main reason was determined to be due to the large volume of heavy trucks of the My Thuy Seaport project construction units regularly entering and exiting, exceeding the load-bearing capacity of the existing road surface structure.
Faced with the above situation, on December 12, the People's Committee of My Thuy commune issued a document requesting the investor of the My Thuy Port project, My Thuy International Port Joint Venture Joint Stock Company, to urgently implement remedial measures. Specifically, the construction unit must level and reinforce the damaged road surface; organize temporary drainage, not to let mud and water accumulate, causing slippery and unsafe conditions for people.
Local authorities also require investors to arrange signs, barriers and traffic control forces at dangerous locations; fully implement environmental protection measures, limit mud from falling onto the road.
According to the People's Committee of My Thuy commune, in August 2025, the locality also requested the investor of the My Thuy Port project to repair the first section of National Highway 15D.
However, due to the large number of heavy-duty vehicles entering and leaving the construction area, the damage to the road surface continued to recur after a short time.
