Opportunities open up for Vietnamese golfers
The Vietnamese golf team will definitely participate in ASIAD 20. Currently, the coaching staff of the Vietnamese golf team has selected 6 male faces and 6 female faces to prepare professionally for ASIAD 20. The criteria for selecting golfers for the team have been publicly announced by the Vietnam Golf Association and the coaching staff of the Vietnamese golf team to create fairness in terms of opportunities for all golfers nationwide.
In the past 3 years, at the national team level, the Vietnamese golf team has achieved historic results. In which, golfer Le Khanh Hung won a men's individual gold medal at SEA Games 32 held in 2023. The Vietnamese men's golf team won a team silver medal at SEA Games 32. Last year, the Vietnamese golf team won a personal silver medal (Nguyen Tuan Anh) and a men's team silver medal at the Asian Youth Games. Next, we have a personal silver medal (Nguyen Anh Minh) and a team bronze medal in the men's golf event at SEA Games 33. Golfer Le Chuc An won a women's individual bronze medal at SEA Games 33.
The results have demonstrated the professional preparation efforts of the coaching staff and each player. From here, the Vietnamese golf player played confidently and understood the opportunity to compete for medals at the congress level arena.
Currently, the Vietnamese golf team still has 5 months to prepare professionally for ASIAD 20. Through investigation, the time to decide the official list of 3 male golfers and 3 female golfers to participate in ASIAD 20 will be announced by the coaching staff of the Vietnamese golf team on June 30.
The challenging competition
In fact, the Vietnamese golf team and leaders of the Vietnam Sports Administration understand that winning a medal at the ASIAD arena is a challenge for Vietnamese golfers. The ASIAD golf competition program is for professional athletes to participate. Amateur golfers participating in ASIAD will not easily be surprised by professional, experienced golfers.
In the last 2 ASIADs, before ASIAD 20 took place, the Vietnamese golf team participated but did not win a medal. At ASIAD 18 in 2018, the best player of the Vietnamese golf team was Truong Chi Quan (ranked 40th individual male). At ASIAD 19 taking place in 2023, Le Khanh Hung was the golfer with the best individual male results (ranked 27th).
Representatives of the golf department (Department of Physical Education and Sports of Vietnam) analyzed that the opportunity to compete for achievements at ASIAD is not easy. However, we have young male golfers with good form and experience through many international programs such as Nguyen Anh Minh, Le Khanh Hung, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Nguyen Trong Hoang, Ho Anh Huy, Nguyen Quoc Bao Huy, Nguyen Duc Son... so the belief in achieving a good result at ASIAD 20 is still aimed at.
