The value of each medal
In 2026, national teams will train from January. A new point in the training process is the regime for coaches and athletes being significantly changed when Decree 349/2025/ND-CP Regulating regimes and policies for members of sports teams participating in concentrated training and competition is implemented.
Along with that, ASIAD 20 will be the first Asian Games that the Vietnamese sports industry applies commendation according to new regulations. Each Gold Medal will be awarded 280 million VND, the Silver Medal is 170 million VND and the Bronze Medal is 110 million VND.
If athletes break the ASIAD record, they will be rewarded an additional 110 million VND/record. In particular, athletes who win ASIAD Gold Medals and have ASIAD medals also enjoy policies on study and employment when leaving the arena.
The new regime and policies are also a motivation for athletes to focus their spirits even better. If they win medals at this ASIAD, they will have the opportunity to receive special support in terms of jobs after retiring, not just bonuses," the representative of the coaching staff of the Vietnamese athletics team expressed.
3 years ago, Vietnamese Sports participated in ASIAD 19 in China with a force of 332 athletes. ASIAD 19 organized 481 events of 40 sports. For ASIAD 20, Vietnamese national sports teams have not yet determined the official force to participate.
In the professional report to the leaders of the Vietnam Sports Administration, the departments (Vietnam Sports Administration) with teams competing in ASIAD 20 affirmed that each coaching staff determines to select sophisticated, streamlined personnel and ensure the best competitive results in Japan. ASIAD 20 will take place in 461 events of 43 sports.
The target is a challenge
To achieve high results, athletes must maintain the best expertise. This depends on the preparation process and competition plan built by each coaching staff. Vietnamese sports focus on winning Gold Medals at ASIAD 20.
At ASIAD 19, we set a target to strive to achieve 3 to 5 Gold Medals. At the end of the Games, the Vietnamese sports delegation achieved 3 Gold Medals in sepak takraw, karate and shooting.
The professional working session between leaders of the Vietnam Sports Administration on preparations for ASIAD 20 is an internal program, information is kept secret. With short-term forecasts and according to the number of events and sports announced by the ASIAD 20 Organizing Committee, it is not excluded that the achievement target set by Vietnamese Sports is still in the range of 3 to 5 Gold Medals.
“The challenge of winning Gold Medals at the ASIAD arena is very big. I have also followed some recent Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), the sports of the region (including Vietnam) have won many Gold Medals. However, moving towards competing in ASIAD at the level of Asian Games, many countries in the region have faced major upheavals. Currently, many athletes in Asia have world-class qualifications, so professional competition at ASIAD has increased a lot,” said sports expert Nguyen Hong Minh (former Director of the High-Performance Sports Department 1, General Department of Sports and Physical Training).
Vietnamese sports are moving towards focused investment, not spreading out. The force participating in ASIAD 20 will follow this criterion. Accordingly, we will participate in competing in events and sports that are predicted to be capable of competing for medals.
The official application of enhanced regimes and policies according to Decree 349/2025/ND-CP brings excitement to athletes. From here, the competition to become a national team player is also very fierce and only people with the best expertise, capable of winning international achievements, are focused on the team.
