In 2024, overcoming many difficulties and challenges, the country's socio-economy has had positive developments with many bright spots; completing all 15/15 set targets, GDP growth of more than 7%, creating momentum, strength, spirit, and new confidence for the entire Party, people, and army. In that common achievement, the Industry and Trade sector has focused its efforts, been unanimous, proactive, creative, and innovative to make a major contribution to the economic growth picture with many spectacular results.
Based on the votes of units under the Ministry and press agencies of the Industry and Trade sector, on December 23, 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Trade announced 10 outstanding events of the Industry and Trade sector in 2024 including:
1. It is a breakthrough year in policy advisory work with a series of Laws, Decrees, Circulars being amended, supplemented and newly issued, especially in the fields of energy and industry, restarting the Nuclear Power Development Program and Ninh Thuan nuclear power projects; removing difficulties for renewable energy projects; separating A0 from EVN to innovate the operation of the national power system and electricity market; resolving many backlog projects of the industry, creating a strategic breakthrough for energy development in the era of national development.
2. The miracle of the 500kV Line 3 with a series of records in construction time, workload, resource mobilization, and problem-solving mechanisms; the Oil and Gas industry aims to exceed the 1 quadrillion VND revenue threshold in 2024; developing a chain of oil and gas and offshore wind power projects with the mark of many key energy projects.
3. Import-export turnover reached a historic milestone of about 800 billion USD, the highest ever; trade surplus for the 9th consecutive year with a surplus of nearly 25 billion USD.
4. Industry recovered strongly, growing spectacularly by 8.4%, of which the manufacturing and processing industry increased by nearly 10% (compared to 2023, just under 1%), creating a great driving force to promote macro-economic growth.
5. Breakthrough to open up large potential markets in the Middle East, Africa, Southern Europe and the Halal market with the negotiation and signing of the Vietnam - UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), opening a big door to the prospect of signing a series of new FTAs.
6. E-commerce exceeds the 25 billion USD mark, growing 20% compared to 2023 and accounting for 9% of total consumer goods and 2/3 of Vietnam's digital economic value, maintaining its position in the Top 10 countries with the fastest e-commerce growth rate in the world.
7. The domestic market grew steadily at 9%, ensuring major balances and stabilizing supply and demand after 15 years of implementing the Campaign for Vietnamese people to prioritize using Vietnamese goods; a pillar to complete macro-growth targets.
8. Strongly innovate trade promotion activities towards accelerating digital transformation, green and sustainable transformation; raise the value of Vietnam's national brand to exceed the 500 billion USD mark for the first time, ranking 32nd in the world.
9. Active, proactive, and solid trade defense, successfully handling most cases, protecting Vietnamese goods on their journey to the world.
10. Proactively and resolutely "streamline, compact, and strengthen" the apparatus in the spirit of summarizing Resolution 18, proposing to streamline nearly 18% of the number of focal points of units under the Ministry and strongly streamline the operating apparatus from within.
