Starting from June 15, 2026, all mobile subscribers when having SIM card removal and installation to another phone device are required to re-verify biometric facial image images in a maximum of 02 hours through 1 of 2 measures:
- Conduct authentication of live face photos of subscribers to ensure they match the data in the National Population Database or Identity Database or National Immigration Database or match the data stored with the encrypted information of the ID card that has been verified to be accurately issued by the Police agency.
- Conduct authentication of direct face photography images of subscribers to ensure they match the biometric information legally stored in the subscriber information database of the enterprise.
Handling roadmap if authentication is not completed
Biometric authentication when changing equipment is a mandatory requirement to confirm that the correct subscriber is operating, not a thief stealing a SIM card. If you do not carry out authentication, Viettel will be forced to apply handling measures according to the roadmap prescribed by law:
- After 02 hours from the time of installing the SIM card to the new device: The subscriber will be temporarily suspended in one direction (cannot make calls, cannot send SMS messages).
- After 30 days from the date of being blocked in one direction: Subscribers will be temporarily suspended in both directions.
- After 05 days from the date of being blocked in both directions: Viettel will proceed to liquidate the contract and recall the subscriber number.
Recommendations from Viettel Telecom
To experience the most smooth and secure communication, Viettel Telecom recommends that customers (especially Vietnamese citizens) download and pre-install the My Viettel application on their phones. Facial verification via My Viettel takes place quickly, absolutely securely and completely free of charge.
