Lang Son sets record in import and export turnover
Another spring has come to the border region, Mau Son peak is covered with white snow, plum and apricot blossoms bloom throughout the forest, the scent of star anise blends into the spring corners of Lang Son.
On specialized routes for import and export of goods, thousands of vehicles pass through every day, and the yards at border gate areas are also operating at full capacity.
The year 2024 ended with positive signs of import and export activities. According to information from the People's Committee of Lang Son province, in 2024, import and export activities through border gates in Lang Son province were very vibrant, with high growth compared to the same period in 2023, reaching an average of 1,300 vehicles/day, peaking at over 1,500 vehicles/day.
Of which, the average export is about 300-400 vehicles/day, the average import is about 900-1,000 vehicles/day. The total import-export turnover of all types through the border gates in Lang Son province is estimated at 66.4 billion USD, up 27.6% over the same period.
The turnover of declarations at Lang Son Customs Department is estimated at 5.66 billion USD, up 18.41% over the same period. Budget revenue from import-export activities is estimated at 6,600 billion VND.
Excitedly watching the flow of vehicles entering and leaving the wharf, along with the bustling transportation, transshipment, and loading and unloading of goods, Mr. Nong Quang Hung - Deputy Head of Tan Thanh Border Gate Customs Branch - shared: "In 2024, the import and export situation through Tan Thanh border gate is quite vibrant, especially since the official opening of a dedicated road for transporting goods in the area of landmark 1088/2-1089 belonging to the Huu Nghi - Huu Nghi Quan international border gate pair, at Tan Thanh Customs Branch, a variety of imported goods with high tax rates have arisen such as cars, semi-trailers, auto parts, motorbikes, and consumer goods".
Tan Thanh Border Gate Customs Branch has paid 665 billion VND to the budget, reaching 121% of the additional assigned target of 550 billion VND.
At the Huu Nghi International Border Gate Customs Branch, procedures were also completed for over 61,000 sets of declarations, with a total turnover of 3.1 billion USD.
Concentrating all resources to implement the smart border gate project
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Doan Thanh Son - Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee - said: "With the current growth rate of import and export goods, expanding and upgrading modern and synchronous infrastructure at border gates is an urgent requirement."
According to Mr. Son, in June 2023, the People's Committee of Lang Son province and the People's Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China signed a framework agreement on jointly promoting the pilot construction of smart border gates at the Huu Nghi (Vietnam) - Huu Nghi Quan (China) international border gate pair.
The smart border gate is the first pilot model in the country with the construction of a dedicated, independent, closed import-export route, separate from the current traditional transportation route.
This model will synchronize infrastructure and databases between the two countries, apply contactless and uninterrupted transportation with unmanned technology on fixed routes, automated container cranes based on satellite positioning and 5G. Customs clearance activities are operated through a command center, cross-border information exchange and maintained 24/7.
"The pilot project to build smart border gates is expected to support and promote import and export activities with the goal of improving customs clearance capacity on the dedicated freight transport route in the area of landmarks 1119-1120 and the dedicated freight transport route in the area of landmarks 1088/2-1089 by 2-3 times by 2027 and by 4-5 times by 2030 compared to the present time," said the leader of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee.
Talking about the preparation work of the border province, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Lang Son province said that the province has completed the construction and signed with the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on the mechanism for meeting and exchanging on piloting the construction of smart border gates.
In the coming time, Lang Son province will continue to focus on reviewing and adjusting construction planning, land use planning and plans, implementing investment preparation procedures and organizing the implementation of investment in infrastructure and technology construction.
Lang Son needs to take the lead in implementing smart border gates
During a field inspection at Huu Nghi border gate and working with relevant agencies on the implementation of the Smart Border Gate Pilot Project, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested Lang Son to take the lead in implementing the smart border gate at Huu Nghi border gate with a scale of 14 lanes and then continue to expand to other border gates and localities. The Prime Minister also hopes that Lang Son province will promptly implement traffic connection projects, including railways, to ensure safe, smart and convenient operations.
