Need "pushes" to promote competitive advantages in AI

Vietnam is increasingly motivated to pursue a competitive advantage in AI. However, it still needs strong incentives from policies and high-quality human resources...

In 2024, AI and its applications have been the hottest topic attracting the attention of technology investors and will continue to be a trend in the coming time.

According to Google, Vietnam's digital economy is on the rise and is expected to continue to grow, possibly accounting for 30% of GDP by 2030 thanks to the continuous digital transformation process.

In particular, AI could play a key role in moving Vietnam towards a higher-value economy, generating an estimated economic benefit of VND1,890 trillion ($79.3 billion) for businesses by 2030.

If exploited effectively, AI can help Vietnam achieve its goal of rapid economic development and become a high-income developed country by 2045.

However, according to Google's AI Opportunity Agenda for Vietnam, for AI technology to play an important role and be deployed effectively, there needs to be trust and clear awareness of the benefits from the people, while the Government creates conditions and supports for the application of AI on a large scale and in a timely manner.

To exploit and promote the full potential of AI, Google experts recommend that Vietnam needs to focus on three main issues. First, it is necessary to invest in infrastructure and innovation - investing in AI research and development, improving and ensuring the quality of digital infrastructure and programming capacity, and creating a supportive policy environment to minimize barriers to AI innovation and creativity.

Second, build an AI-ready workforce – investing in people to ensure they can use and benefit from AI, from students to workers, from small businesses to large corporations.

Third, promote adoption and access for all – harness AI in government and all sectors of the economy to address key economic and social challenges, and ensure the benefits of AI are widely spread.

For AI to be able to enter every corner of life, contribute to the country's socio-economic development, further improve work efficiency, as well as the quality of life of each citizen, strong incentives from policies and highly applicable products are still needed.

Especially high-quality human resources, data and computing infrastructure, as well as strengthening international cooperation with the world's leading AI research and development enterprises.
