After merging administrative units, Can Tho City owns about 511,000 hectares of agricultural land. This is an advantage for the locality to develop diverse agriculture from rice, fruit trees to seafood in a modern, high-tech and sustainable direction.
To date, the total annual rice output of Can Tho City has reached over 5.1 million tons, with more than 95% of the area using high-quality varieties. In the first 8 months of 2025, more than 1.2 million tons of rice were exported, bringing in nearly 600 million USD. Can Tho is also a ST25 rice growing locality (formerly Soc Trang province) for rice that was ranked "World's Best Rice" in international competitions.

From 2024, the cooperative participated in the Project for sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality rice, reducing emissions, with a higher profit than the model of about 5.2 million VND/ha/crop, an increase of 12%.

Not only rice, Can Tho's fruit trees also affirm their position in the market. The city currently has more than 102,000 hectares, with an output of about 1.2 million tons/year, with specialties such as durian, longan, mango, star apple exported to the US, Japan, Korea and Europe. Southwater shrimp farming has been strongly restructured, high technology has been deployed, closed-circle farming has brought high economic efficiency, stability and sustainability. In particular, the old Soc Trang province implemented the brackish water shrimp farming project for the period 2023 - 2025, with a vision to 2030, with the goal of reaching nearly 234,000 tons in 2025, with a minimum export turnover of 1 billion USD.
Currently, Can Tho City has 647 cooperatives in the agricultural sector with more than 20,700 members, creating regular jobs for 31,000 workers. Many cooperatives have become the core of the agricultural product value chain, building brands, applying traceability, participating in OCOP, and linking stable consumption. Cooperatives help farmers access cheap input, reduce costs, increase product value, stabilize jobs and increase income.
According to the Can Tho Development Plan for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2045, the city will form 7 high-tech agricultural areas and 2 concentrated livestock areas. These areas will research and produce high-quality varieties, applying biotechnology, genetics, digital technology and automation. By 2045, strive to become a high-tech agricultural center of the Mekong Delta with smart, circular, environmentally friendly agriculture.
The city also focuses on developing concentrated production areas, creating a value chain of agricultural products from cultivation, animal husbandry to processing and consumption, improving product competitiveness.
