Vietnamese stocks will account for about 0.48% in the FTSE Emerging All Cap basket

After completing the roadmap in September 2027, Vietnamese stocks are expected to account for 0.488% of FTSE Emerging All Cap, according to calculations by FTSE Russell.

According to FTSE Russell's August 2026 updated FAQ document, Vietnam will be included in the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (GEIS) and related indices in 4 phases, starting from September 2026 and completing in September 2027.

The proportion of investable weight added through each phase is 10%, 20%, 35% and 35% respectively. After each phase, FTSE Russell will assess the ability of index adherence funds to recreate changes in the index before deploying the next phase.

With the first phase taking effect from September 21, 2026, when the input coefficient is at 10%, FTSE Russell expects Vietnam to account for 0.049% of FTSE Emerging All Cap. When 100% of the roadmap is completed, this proportion increases to 0.488%.

In the FTSE Emerging Index, Vietnam's expected weight is 0.031% in the early stages and 0.3089% when the roadmap is completed.

In FTSE Global All Cap, Vietnam is expected to have a ratio of 0.0049% in the early stages and 0.049% when fully included. With FTSE All-World, the corresponding figures are 0.0031% and 0.0311%.

The weights are calculated by FTSE Russell based on the closing price on August 21, 2026 and the expected index component taking effect from September 21, 2026.

According to FTSE Russell's roadmap, in the September 2026 review, Vietnamese stocks will be included in the indices with a 10% proportion that can be invested. By March 2027, the accumulated proportion will increase to 30%; June 2027 to 65% and by September 2027 reach 100%.

FTSE Russell said that this divergence method aims to limit market disruption, create conditions for the market to absorb new capital flows and help index simulation funds have time to adjust their portfolios.

Previously, on August 21, 2026, FTSE Russell announced the list of 27 Vietnamese stocks newly added to FTSE All-Cap, an index including stocks belonging to the three capitalization groups Large Cap, Mid Cap and Small Cap.

In which, the Large Cap group has 3 stocks including Vietcombank (VCB), Vingroup (VIC) and Vinhomes (VHM).

The Mid Cap group also had 3 additional stocks, including BIDV (BID), Hoa Phat (HPG) and VPBank (VPB).

If expanded to FTSE Total-Cap, the index includes the Micro Cap group alongside Large Cap, Mid Cap and Small Cap, the total number of newly added Vietnamese stocks is up to 117. In addition to 27 FTSE All-Cap stocks, FTSE Russell added 90 more Vietnamese stocks to the Micro Cap group.

Notably, 6 stocks including VCB, VIC, VHM, BID, HPG and VPB were also added to FTSE All-World, the index focusing on stocks belonging to the Large Cap and Mid Cap groups.
