Technology solutions
Over the years, economic growth in the Mekong Delta has mainly relied on traditional resources such as land, water, agriculture - aquaculture and unskilled labor. Although certain achievements have been achieved, practice shows that exploiting resources in this way, lacking technological investment, has not brought sustainable added value.
Sharing at the Workshop "Green transformation businesses and solutions to promote sustainable green financial access", held on September 30 in Can Tho City, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tam (Mekong province, Can Tho University), said that, in the face of current demand, the application of advanced technology will help agricultural startups and cooperatives optimize production processes, minimize environmental impacts, and improve economic efficiency.
Accordingly, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tam suggested a number of technological solutions that businesses and agricultural startup cooperatives can apply in production such as IoT and sensor technology; Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data Analysis; Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV); Precision Agriculture (Precision Agriculture); Organic agriculture, circular agriculture, etc.
To access these technologies, in addition to financial support (Green Investment Fund, credit incentives, green startup idea competitions, etc.), digital skills training programs and technical consulting are also extremely necessary. In particular, the issue of connecting the market, with technology exchanges, seminars promoting products applying green transformation technology, ... will create a foundation for technology providers to connect with agricultural enterprises.
Improving the quality of human resources
Ms. Vo Thi Thu Huong - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Mekong Delta branch - said that through a quick survey of 150 VCCI member enterprises in the Mekong Delta in 2025, it shows that up to 43.6% of enterprises in need of green transformation lack professional human resources. In the aspect of desire when transforming green, businesses all expressed their expectations of being supported in human resource training (54.7%) and connecting experts (42.5%).
Some data shows that human resources need more time to improve their capacity to transition to a green economy, which is one of the limitations of businesses in the Mekong Delta today.

The Deputy Director of VCCI, Mekong Delta branch, further analyzed that in the period of 2019 - 2023, agricultural labor productivity in the Mekong Delta increased by only 51%, while in the Red River Delta, it increased by 123% thanks to the application of high technology. The number of businesses growing annually in the Mekong Delta is still quite modest. Low profit margin leads to low wages and limited job opportunities. The Mekong Delta is facing the trend of workers looking for jobs elsewhere.
However, currently, with important legal documents and policies and resolutions issued, it has created a foundation for green economic development. Most recently, Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in education and training development will contribute to the formation of human resources associated with rapidly changing market demand, including a green economy associated with science, technology, and innovation.
Faced with this reality, VCCI Mekong Delta branch recognizes that the green transformation process is a comprehensive ecosystem, including capital, human resources and professional consulting services. In particular, enhancing human resource training is a fundamental solution for businesses. This requires coordination between institutes, schools and businesses to train human resources close to market demand, especially in the field of green economy.
