Proposal to increase support level for container transportation through Cua Lo Port

On April 19, information from the Southeast Economic Zone Management Board said that it had just held a conference to review 1 year of implementing Resolution 03/2023/NQ-HDND of the province on policies to support container transportation through Cua Lo Port. The conference was attended by representatives of departments, branches, logistics enterprises and shipping lines.

After more than 1 year of implementation, the policy has contributed to increasing the output of container goods passing through the port from 69,098 tons (in 2023) to 75,340 tons, an increase of 10%. The total support fund for 8 enterprises reached nearly VND23.8 billion, with a disbursement rate of 99.8%.

However, businesses said that the current support level is still low compared to neighboring localities. Therefore, Nghe An province proposed to increase the support level from 0.6 million VND/20-foot container and 1 million VND/40-foot container to 1 million VND/20-foot container and 1.5 million VND/40-foot container. At the same time, the support level for international trains is proposed to increase from 300 million VND to 450 million VND/trip.

In addition, the province also proposed investing in dredging canals, expanding ship quay areas and building post- port container areas to improve the capacity to receive large ships and increase the competitiveness of Cua Lo Port.

The above proposals will be compiled and reported to the Provincial People's Committee to be submitted to the Provincial People's Council for consideration and decision in the coming time.
