Recorded on January 8, Ha Long Company's canned goods products are no longer on sale at some large supermarket systems in Ho Chi Minh City.
The move of large supermarket systems was made in the context that recently, the Investigation Police Agency of Hai Phong Police discovered and handled a particularly serious case related to food safety, when more than 120 tons of pork contaminated with African swine fever were put into the warehouse of Ha Long Canned Food Joint Stock Company.
Regarding this case, functional agencies have prosecuted the case and prosecuted 9 defendants in a line of collecting, transporting and consuming more than 130 tons of pork contaminated with African swine fever to process into canned food.
On the evening of January 8, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Pham Khanh Phong Lan - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety said that the unit has asked for opinions and is waiting for instructions from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. The unit has also warned supermarkets and stores in the area to stop distributing products.
Representatives of MM Mega Market said that as soon as they received information from functional agencies, the unit proactively reviewed and proceeded to recall related products throughout the system.

Central Retail - the unit managing the GO! supermarket system, Tops Market also said that as soon as it received information from the mass media, to ensure the rights and health of consumers, while waiting for the official conclusion of functional agencies, the enterprise decided to temporarily remove all processed pork products of Ha Long Canned Food Joint Stock Company from the shelves at supermarkets.
At the same time, the enterprise affirmed that it always focuses on strictly controlling the quality of goods from the stage of importing goods, preserving to displaying for sale; ensuring goods have clear origin and source, meeting quality, food safety and hygiene requirements and transparent price information to consumers.
Meanwhile, a representative of Bach Hoa Xanh said that as soon as there was relevant information, the enterprise proactively temporarily suspended the business of all related product codes to ensure safety and prevent the risk of food insecurity according to internal procedures.
According to Bach Hoa Xanh, the unit has worked directly with the supplier to request detailed information, and at the same time continue to closely monitor information from functional agencies to implement the next steps in accordance with regulations.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, by 2 pm on January 8, 6 retail systems in the area had reported on the sale of products related to "Ha Long boxed goods", including: Bach Hoa Xanh, Saigon Co.op, Central Retail, MM Mega Market, Genshai and KingFood Mart.
