In the southern provinces and cities, the price of live pigs on December 10 ranges from 57,000 - 60,000 VND/kg. Some localities increased by 1,000 VND/kg such as: An Giang, Can Tho at 58,000 VND/kg, Dong Thap, Vinh Long at 59,000 VND/kg.
The increase in live pig prices has directly affected the retail market. Recorded at traditional markets in Can Tho city such as Tan An, Xuan Khanh, Cai Khe..., pork prices have fluctuated around 110,000 to more than 150,000 VND/kg.
In particular, thigh meat and buffalo meat range from 110,000 - 130,000 VND/kg, three pigs from 130,000 - 150,000 VND/kg, young ribs from 150,000 VND/kg or more...

Tradewoman Nguyen Thi Le shared: "The situation of floods and high tides has caused fluctuations in supply. In addition, according to annual experience, the closer to Tet, the higher the demand for meat to process pigs and sausages will be, so pork prices will certainly continue to increase. Therefore, I have to proactively find and deposit goods early to avoid shortages and prices being pushed up too high."
Similarly, trader Ngoc Phuong said: Towards the end of the year, the price of live pigs increases according to market demand. The flood situation also affects the herd, so we are forced to proactively source meat in advance to avoid shortages of goods near Tet."


Meanwhile, Can Tho General Trading Joint Stock Company (C.T.C) is taking measures to stabilize prices in the face of the increase in live pigs in the market. Ms. Nguyen Thi Huynh - Deputy General Director of the Company - said that the price of live pigs has begun to increase due to the double impact of the flood situation and high demand near Tet.
Sport pig prices in the market have increased from 4,000 - 5,000 VND/kg to 60,000 VND/kg in the past two weeks. However, our factory has been linked to about 10 - 12 large farms, so the supply of input is still stable, the price of live pigs for sale ranges from 54,000 - 55,000 VND/kg", Ms. Huynh informed.
The company representative also affirmed that the unit has proactively prepared supply for the Lunar New Year. At the same time, it is tightening and strictly controlling epidemics at affiliated farms. "It is expected that during Tet, the price of live pigs may increase by about 10% compared to normal days. This is a common situation every year due to strong increases in consumer demand, said Ms. Huynh.
According to the report of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, as of November 2025, the whole city had nearly 583,000 cattle. Of which, the herd of pigs is over 495,000, reaching 99.26% of the plan. Accumulated in the first 11 months of the year, the output of various types of fresh meat was nearly 160,000 tons (vehicle meat more than 97,000 tons, poultry more than 60,000 tons), reaching 91.77% of the plan. The city is strengthening inspection and closely monitoring the animal epidemic situation in the area, in order to detect outbreaks early to organize timely handling, avoiding widespread spread.
Also in November, the City People's Committee assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to preside over and coordinate with relevant departments, branches, sectors, units, People's Committees of communes and wards to organize the implementation of the Program to stabilize the market of essential goods, promote trade activities in 2025, Lunar New Year 2026 in the area.
At the same time, the Department of Industry and Trade was also assigned to direct the Market Management Department to develop a plan to inspect and control the market to detect and strictly handle violations of the law such as speculation, hoarding, trading in prohibited goods, smuggled goods, pushing prices up unreasonably, affecting commercial activities in the area, causing damage to consumers, etc.
