In recent days, many people and readers have wondered about the broken "water pond" on Tan Lai mountain, part of the Viet Farm project, causing serious consequences on November 1.
Because according to many people, ponds are often only small in area with fish ponds, water spinach ponds, etc. Meanwhile, according to the initial assessment of the authorities, the pond broke, causing water to overflow downstream, with a very large area, more than 20 hectares.

Previously, on October 2, a similar incident occurred in this project, causing water to flow downstream but to a lighter extent.
After that, Mr. Tran Quang Tinh - Director of Trang Trai Viet Company issued a document explaining that the company built ponds to collect rainwater for production. In addition, there are fish ponds (independent from the water retention system) for experimental farming.
Report No. 135 dated November 2 of Tuy Phong Commune People's Committee stated that a working group recorded on site at the project that 2 ponds had broken walls, creating a large amount of water flowing downstream, causing the incident. Of which, 1 pond has an area of about 18.4 hectares, 1 pond has an area of about 4.1 hectares.

Most recently, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee reported on the incident. According to this report, Trang Trai Viet Company has dug 6 ponds (including 3 ponds for water storage and fish release) under the High-tech Agriculture Project under the VAC model.
These ponds are not included in the investment policy, not in the approved environmental impact assessment report, and are not subject to the granted Construction Permit.
The authorities have zoning off the locations of existing ponds in the project on the Google Map, the largest pond containing water has an area of about 20 hectares. At the same time, through information, the average depth is 4.5m, with a capacity of about 900,000 m3.
"In comparison with the classification of dams and reservoirs according to Decree No. 114/2018/ND-CP dated September 4, 2018 of the Government on dam and reservoir safety management, the above-mentioned ponds belong to medium-water reservoirs" - the report of the Provincial People's Committee clearly stated.
Therefore, according to the requirements for the design and construction of dams and reservoirs according to Decree No. 114, this lake must be built to meet the regulations.
However, the self- composted reservoir made of soil and rock still existed in the project and broke up on the evening of November 1, causing very serious consequences.

On November 2, the authorities inspected the scene and the company had not provided any relevant documents according to regulations.
Currently, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has requested the company to dry up ponds and reservoirs in the project and demolish dams to prevent water. The police are in charge of working with relevant agencies to comprehensively investigate the incident.
As Lao Dong reported, on the evening of November 1, the reservoir at the Farm Company's project broke, causing water to pour into residential areas and agricultural production areas of the people.
As a result, a 13-year-old girl died, and more than 100 households suffered damage to land, crops, and livestock. Many canals, power lines and infrastructure works were damaged.
