World oil prices today
World oil prices today increased sharply across the board. At 10:14, WTI crude oil was at 74.11 USD/barrel, up 0.19 USD/barrel, or 0.26%. WTI crude oil closed the previous trading session at 73.92 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 74.22 USD/barrel.
Brent crude oil was at $77.12 a barrel, up $0.20 a barrel, or 0.27 percent. Brent crude oil closed the previous session at $77.24 a barrel and opened today at $77.20 a barrel.
Thus, world oil prices fluctuated strongly. In yesterday's trading session (January 9), oil prices fell sharply at the beginning of the session and then increased sharply at the end of the session with Brent and WTI oil prices increasing by 1% and 0.82% respectively. The increase continued in this morning's session.
Oil prices rose sharply as demand for winter fuels increased in the United States, analysts said. Winter storm warnings were issued for parts of eastern Texas to western Virginia, according to the National Weather Service. Cold weather in the United States and Europe boosted demand for heating oil.
On the other hand, severe winter conditions could lead to disruptions in oil supplies as freezing temperatures could cause temporary freezes and production cuts.
Pressure on oil prices was a continued strengthening of the US dollar, which makes oil more expensive for holders of other currencies. Higher inflation in Germany also raised concerns that the European Central Bank may not cut interest rates across the eurozone as quickly as expected.
