World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices recorded a sharp weekly decrease. At the end of a trading week, WTI crude oil was at 101.94 USD/barrel last weekend, down to 95.42 USD/barrel this weekend. Overall last week, WTI oil decreased by 6.52 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 6.4% compared to the previous week.
Brent oil was at 108.17 USD/barrel last weekend, down to 101.29 USD/barrel this weekend. Overall last week, Brent oil decreased by 6.8 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 6.36% compared to the previous week.
According to analysts, world oil prices fell sharply last week after President Donald Trump's statement that the ceasefire agreement with Iran was still maintained, although new clashes between US and Iranian forces continued to occur. This information increased expectations of the possibility of reaching a broader agreement in the near future.
Amid escalating tensions, the US attacked several military targets in Iran after Tehran fired at three destroyers in the Strait of Hormuz. However, US officials affirmed that this move was not aimed at escalating the conflict.
Developments in the Strait of Hormuz continue to be the focus of attention in the global energy market. This area has been almost disrupted since the end of February, significantly affecting global crude oil flows, and causing many production facilities in the region to temporarily suspend operations.
Analysts believe that the oil market is still in a state of stalemate between diplomatic expectations and the risk of military tensions breaking out again. Experts warn that conflict is disrupting about 14 million barrels of oil/day from global supply.
