World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices simultaneously increased. At 9:26 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 82.03 USD/barrel, up 0.56 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.69%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 81.47 USD/barrel, and opened today's session at 81.52 USD/barrel.
Brent oil was at 89.21 USD/barrel, up 0.69 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.78%. Brent oil closed the previous trading session at 88.52 USD/barrel, and opened today's session at 88.85 USD/barrel.
World oil prices rose in the first morning session of the week as markets feared supply could tighten due to attacks targeting oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, along with increased buying demand from developed markets.
The flow of ships through the Strait of Hormuz at the weekend continued to be low, amid conflicting statements by the US and Iran about controlling this strategic shipping route.
Sea transport data shows that on August 11, only 8 ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, before the conflict in the Middle East occurred, about 125-140 ships passed through this sea route every day.
Iran declared that the US must lift sanctions against Tehran and meet some other conditions for the Hormuz Strait to reopen. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump asked Iran to compensate "all those they have killed and seriously injured".
In the past week, attacks on ships in the Middle East have continued, while negotiations to end the conflict with Iran have fallen into deadlock, continuing to increase concerns about oil transportation through the region.
