World oil prices today
In the past week, world gasoline and oil prices turned down sharply. WTI crude oil from 86.64 USD/barrel at the end of last week fell to 83.44 USD/barrel at the end of this week. Overall last week, WTI oil prices decreased by 3.20 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 3.69% compared to the end of last week.
Brent oil fell from 93.93 USD/barrel at the end of last week to 88.28 USD/barrel at the end of this week. Overall last week, Brent oil prices fell 5.65 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 6.02% compared to the end of last week.
World oil prices fell sharply last week, primarily due to profit-taking pressure after the previous strong increase. In the session of August 24, investors pushed up selling after both key oils just recorded their second consecutive week of increase, with an increase of more than 5%.
In addition, the market is not too worried about the US sanctions campaign against Iran. Investors believe that economic pressure measures are less likely to disrupt oil supplies than the risk of escalating military conflict.
Oil prices continue to face pressure as investors monitor negotiations between Iran and Oman over the Hormuz Strait. Signals of the possibility of partial restoration of transportation through this important shipping route have contributed to reducing concerns about the risk of supply disruption.
Meanwhile, the fact that crude oil inventories in the US increased less than expected also contributed to the market.
