Hung Yen proposes to develop Diem Dien seaport to accommodate 200,000-ton ships

Hung Yen - The Ministry of Construction and Hung Yen province discuss solutions to develop seaports and expand the economic space towards the sea.

On July 11, a working group of the Ministry of Construction, led by Deputy Minister Nguyen Xuan Sang, had a working session with the People's Committee of Hung Yen province to discuss the development planning of land and seaport waters according to Decision 655/QD-BXD, for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.

The working session took place on the basis of the Notice of Conclusion No. 243 of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, assigning the Ministry of Construction to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to study and propose investment support for the Diem Dien seaport area - an area identified as having a strategic role in developing the coastal economy.

According to the detailed plan, the Thai Binh seaport system includes the wharves: Diem Dien, Tra Ly, Ba Lat along with floating wharves, anchorage, storm shelters, etc.

By 2030, the port system is oriented to achieve a cargo output of 6.8 - 8 million tons/year, of which containers are about 0.02 million TEUs; there are 10-11 ports with 12-13 ports.

By 2050, the volume of goods passing through the port will continue to grow by an average of 5-5.3%/year, while synchronously developing logistics services and supporting industries.

At the meeting, representatives of the consulting unit presented in detail the current status and development orientation of each area, plans to renovate the shipping route, meeting the demand for receiving large-duty ships of up to 200,000 tons at Diem Dien wharf area.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Hung Yen Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Khac Than emphasized that the province's orientation is to expand the economic space towards the sea, develop industrial clusters, urban areas, services, high-tech agriculture associated with Thai Binh Economic Zone. In particular, investing in the construction and effective operation of Diem Dien wharf area is of key significance, an important "gateway" to promote regional linkages and enhance competitiveness.

Hung Yen province hopes that the Ministry of Construction will continue to support and create conditions to concretize development goals according to the approved plan. The province will coordinate closely, while promoting the attraction of capable investors to realize strategic projects.

Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Xuan Sang affirmed that the Ministry of Construction supports the proposal to support investment in the construction of Diem Dien Seaport area to be able to receive ships with a load capacity of up to 200,000 tons from Hung Yen province as well as the development plan for the land and water areas of Thai Binh seaport in the future.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Xuan Sang highly appreciated the vision and orientation of Hung Yen province in developing Thai Binh Economic Zone into a regional economic focus; at the same time, assigned specialized agencies under the ministry to continue researching and proposing feasibility plans to report to the ministry's leaders to submit to the Prime Minister. The Ministry of Construction is ready to accompany and support the province in implementing the planning contents, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, creating a new step of development for Hung Yen province.
