The US positively evaluates the results of counterpart tax negotiations
informed at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Industry and Trade held on the afternoon of October 8, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said that in the past, Vietnam has been making efforts to promote counter-attacking tax negotiations with the US side.
"The negotiating team between Vietnam and the US regularly and continuously holds negotiations. To date, the US side has had many positive reviews of the results of the head-to-head trade tax negotiations between the two countries. This is a very positive result" - Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan informed.
The Deputy Minister also said that it is expected that in October and November 2025, the Vietnamese negotiating delegation will continue to have a working trip to the United States to discuss and implement further work towards completing the agreement on counter- trade on the principle of openness, construction, equality, respect for independence, self-reliance, political institutions, mutual benefit and consideration of each other's level of development.
The two sides will strive to promote stable economic, trade and investment relations, harmonizing interests, commensurate with the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Strengthening trade promotion activities
At the press conference, Mr. Bui Huy Son - Director of the Department of Financial Planning and Business Management - said that in the past 9 months, import-export continued to be a bright spot of the economy: Total import-export turnover reached 680.6 billion USD, an increase of 17.3% over the same period last year.
In terms of export market structure, the United States is still our country's largest export market (reaching 112.8 billion USD, up 27.7%); followed by Chinese markets (reaching 49.6 billion USD, up 11.3%); EU (reaching 41.7 billion USD, up 9.3%); ASEAN (reaching 28.5 billion USD, up 2.9%) and Japan (reaching 19.7 billion USD, up 9%).
According to Mr. Bui Huy Son, in the last months of the year, determined to work with the whole country to complete the set goals and establish new results, the Industry and Trade sector determined to continue implementing Resolution 59-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2025 of the Politburo on international integration in the new situation.
Along with that, continue to closely monitor the developments of the US tariff policy, proactively coordinate with the authorities of both sides to discuss, clarify and handle arising issues, limit the risk of applying more unfavorable measures to Vietnamese goods.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade will also focus on completing the groundbreaking of negotiations on the two FTAs between Vietnam and Mercosur and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in the fourth quarter of 2025; promoting early start of negotiations with Pakistan to expand opportunities in export markets; and soon concluding FTA negotiations between Vietnam and the EFTA in 2025.
At the same time, closely monitor to promptly overcome export limitations of domestic enterprises to support exports and reduce dependence on FDI. Accordingly, continue to accompany businesses in removing difficulties, through regularly organizing dialogues and working with industry and local associations to promptly grasp the situation, thereby advising the Government to issue appropriate support policies.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Industry and Trade also strengthens trade promotion activities, connecting supply and demand, and product promotion to help businesses expand their reach to new customers, while strengthening trust with traditional partners in the US market. Strengthen the implementation of regulations on the origin of goods through inspection, supervision, licensing and handling of violations; strengthen state management and combat trade defense measures and origin fraud.
