On July 11, within the framework of attending the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Conference and related conferences in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Central Party Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed on the morning of July 12.
At the meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the two sides expressed their delight that the meeting took place on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son and Minister of Foreign Affairs Marco Rubio reviewed the progress in bilateral relations, affirming that the relationship between the two countries has achieved remarkable progress in many fields over the past 30 years, the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is increasingly substantial and effective.
The two Ministers also discussed measures to further deepen bilateral relations, including promoting visits and contacts at all levels, especially at high levels; implementing high-level agreements and effectively implementing existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms; and agreeing to actively coordinate in organizing activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Affirming that the economy continues to be an important driving force for bilateral relations, the two sides agreed to build a balanced, stable, harmonious and sustainable economic, trade and investment cooperation relationship, resolving difficulties for the common interests of the two countries.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that the US support Vietnam in efforts to promote innovation, digital transformation, develop a high-tech supply chain, train high-quality human resources; highly appreciate the goodwill and coordination of the US in supporting projects to overcome the consequences of the war in Vietnam.
Foreign Minister Rubio affirmed that he values the relationship with Vietnam, hopes to continue promoting cooperation with Vietnam in many fields, coordinate to resolve existing problems, continue to support Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of war, considering this a testament to the trust and symbol of the development of the relationship.
The two sides also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that the US continue to play an active role, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.
The US Secretary of State affirmed that the US supports ASEAN's central role and continues to promote cooperation within the framework of the ASEAN-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The two sides also discussed the East Sea issue and agreed on the importance of peace, security, stability, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, and dispute resolution through peaceful means, in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
