According to Lao Dong reporter's research, Nga Tu So market (Dong Da district) is one of the largest traditional markets in Hanoi. However, in recent times, the market has continuously deteriorated, many traders in the market have had to close kiosks and trade sparingly every day.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (character's name has been requested to be changed) - a trader at Nga Tu So market) - said that even though it was early in the morning, the deserted market for many years has made many traders very frustrated.
According to Ms. Hoa, many stalls here have been closed for many years, with a series of shelves left empty and damaged.
"Many markets have leaked, only covered with bamboo sticks and tarpaulins to avoid the rain and sun. Many rows of kiosks have been closed here for a long time, causing the market to be increasingly deserted" - Ms. Hoa said.

Similarly, Ms. Tran Thi Nguyet (living in Dong Da district, Hanoi) informed that many days after coming here, she saw the market is deserted, with only about 10 traders opening stores. According to Ms. Nguyet, due to her habit of consuming and shopping online, she rarely comes here to shop even though the house is right next door.
Many people living here said that because Nga Tu So market has seriously degraded, traders do not dare to sit in the market to do business, and people do not dare to go to the dilapidated market to buy things. Over time, traders are flocking to Cau Moi Street, Giap Nhat Street... to do business.

Referring to this content, the People's Committee of Dong Da District (Hanoi) previously said that Nga Tu So Market is a Grade 1 market that has seriously degraded, the People's Committee of the district has also included it in the investment and reconstruction plan for the period 2021-2025 and has been approved by the Hanoi People's Committee.
However, due to problems with the mechanism for using the budget to invest in construction for grade 1 and grade 2 markets, Dong Da District People's Committee has difficulty in investing in rebuilding Nga Tu So market.
Currently, the District Construction Investment Project Management Board has submitted Document No. 239/TTr-KTTD and Report No. 118/BC-KTTD to the District Policy Proposal Report Appraisal Council and the Planning and Finance Department to appraise the policy report for the Nga Tu So market construction project.
Dong Da District People's Committee plans to approve the feasibility study report in the second quarter of 2025, and approve the construction drawing design documents in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Therefore, strive to start construction of the market in the first quarter of 2026 and complete the project in 2028.
