From early morning on May 24, thousands of parents and candidates were present at the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
The weather in Hanoi today has a lot of rain, causing difficulties for students and parents when traveling to the exam location. In front of the school gate, security forces and volunteers were on duty to direct traffic, guide and support candidates and their families.
Although students enter the exam room early, parents still stay behind to watch their children. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien (Long Bien, Hanoi) did not take her eyes off the exam room. She said that the family woke up at 5:30 am to prepare and take their child to the exam location. "It rained today, so I took the initiative to go early and hired a taxi to take my child" - she said.

She said that her child took the History exam today and continued to wish for this major at Chu Van An High School for the Gifted in early June.
According to Ms. Hien, her child is the first generation of students to take the 10th grade entrance exam under the new general education program - the structure and content of the exam have changed - causing students to be more confused and have difficulty in the review process.
The rain from early morning has caused some difficulties for candidates and parents. Mr. Le Ngoc Doan and his child from Soc Son took a bus to the center at 5am. He said: "Because I was far away from home, I left early, and at around 6am my child and I arrived at the exam site."
He said that his son wished to take the Literature exam of the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities and the Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted. However, he calmly said: "If I don't pass the entrance exam to a specialized school, my children will be fine if they study at public schools near their homes."
Before the exam, he expressed his hope that he would be calm, confident and do his homework well, achieving his set wishes.

Sharing with Lao Dong, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu - Principal of the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities - said that this year the school received applications from 2,037 candidates, an increase of about 500 students compared to last year. Of which, the Literature class is the largest with 1,191 students. The History and Geography classes have 484 and 362 students registered, respectively.
The school opens enrollment for 4 classes, including 2 specialized classes, 1 specialized class in History and 1 specialized class in Geography. With an average of 35 students per class, the highest competition rate in the Literature class - 1/17, meaning that on average, only 1 student out of 17 candidates was admitted, higher than last year's rate of 1/13.3. This figure in the History major class is nearly 1/14 and the Geography major is about 1/10.
Last year's benchmark score for the Literature major was 8 points, for the History major 7.5 points and for the Geography major 7 points. However, the admission score this year will change a lot because students take 4 subjects (Math, Literature, English and Business), while last year, they only took each major.
The test score is calculated according to the 10th scale. The admission score is the total score of the general language exam multiplied by the number 1 and the expert subject factor 2.
As a specialized school under Hanoi National University, the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities is admitted nationwide, independent of the specialized and non-specialized public entrance exams to grade 10 of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.
