Import and export at the beginning of 2026 maintain positive growth momentum
Vietnam's total import and export turnover in the first 5 months of 2026 reached 445.12 billion USD, an increase of 25% over the same period. Exports reached 215.66 billion USD, an increase of 19.5%, while imports reached 229.46 billion USD, an increase of 30.8%. The United States continues to be the largest export market, while China is Vietnam's largest import market.

The import structure shows that 94.1% of turnover is production materials, including machinery, equipment, raw materials for production and export. The consumer goods group only accounts for 5.9%, showing that most of the imported goods are used as inputs for the economy.
Although Vietnam had a trade deficit of 13.8 billion USD in the first 5 months of the year, experts believe it is not too worrying because imports mainly serve production. However, it is necessary to monitor if the trade deficit is prolonged or the import structure shifts to non-essential consumer goods. Experts predict that total import and export turnover in 2026 will still increase but the trade surplus will be lower than in 2025. See more...
