Gasoline and oil prices today May 9th: Sharp decrease
World oil prices continued to fluctuate strongly in the last session of the week. WTI oil increased to 95.42 USD/barrel, while Brent oil reached 101.29 USD/barrel. However, for the whole week, these two types of oil still decreased by more than 6% due to the cautious sentiment of investors in the face of tense developments in the Middle East.
According to analysts, the oil market is "struggling" between expectations that the US and Iran can resume negotiations and the risk of escalating military conflict in the Strait of Hormuz. Although the US affirms that it does not want to expand the conflict, recent military attacks still make the market concerned about disrupted oil supplies.
Domestically, retail gasoline and oil prices were adjusted from the afternoon of May 7 according to the decision of the inter-Ministry of Industry and Trade - Finance. At the same time, many businesses continue to apply discounts for gasoline and diesel, fluctuating around 1,000 - 1,650 VND/liter depending on the item and region. See more...
Coconut and durian prices in Ho Chi Minh City increase sharply
In Ho Chi Minh City, the demand for refreshments increased sharply due to prolonged hot weather, causing fresh coconut prices to increase significantly. Many street vending points recorded a large number of customers throughout the day, especially at noon and in the late afternoon. According to small traders, in addition to increased consumer demand, escalating transportation costs and labor costs also contribute to pushing retail coconut prices up.
Besides fresh coconuts, the durian market in Ho Chi Minh City is also bustling as it enters the peak season. Ri6 durian is currently commonly sold from 60,000-80,000 VND/kg, while products in supermarkets or large stores are priced higher thanks to being carefully selected, ensuring traceability and stable quality.

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, coconut prices increased due to summer consumption demand and sharp increases in logistics costs. With durian, price differences mainly come from product quality: goods that meet export standards and are carefully controlled still have high prices, while many types sold on the roadside are substandard or floating goods, so they are cheap but of uneven quality.
