Changing habits is also a contribution to the country
Early in the morning, in a renovated level-4 house located in a small alley in Cau Giay ward (Hanoi), Ms. Nguyen Thu Huong (33 years old) starts a new day by opening the window to receive natural light and turning off all electric lights in the house.
“Before, I thought turning off the electricity and saving a few kWh was a small matter, insignificant. But after working for a long time, I realized that I was saving a lot of things, from money to energy for society,” Ms. Huong said.
Ms. Huong's family used to consume quite a lot of electricity, especially in the summer. Air conditioning is turned on all day, electric lights are on even when unnecessary. But since starting to change living habits, everything has gradually changed.
“We switched to using air conditioning at 26-27 degrees, combined with a fan. During the day, we take advantage of sunlight, limit turning on lights. Electrical appliances that are not used are completely removed, not in standby mode” - she shared.
Those seemingly minor changes helped her family significantly reduce electricity consumption each month. But what she realized was a bigger feeling of "I'm doing the right thing".
Mr. Pham Van Long is a technology car driver in Hanoi, he said: "When gasoline prices increase, the company does not have any additional support policies, so it is necessary to think of enough ways to save money. Driving all day, if you don't know how to save money, you will lose all profits," he said. Mr. Long's experience is to always maintain a stable speed, limit sudden braking, turn off the engine when stopping at a red light for a long time and regularly maintain the car. "Just changing the spark plug periodically, the car will run smoother and consume much less gas," he shared.
In another corner, Ms. Le Thi Mai, who was originally an accountant, has switched to going to work by bus instead of personal motorbike. She said: "Initially, it was a bit inconvenient, but gradually getting used to it, I saw enough benefits: Saving costs, reducing stress because I don't have to jostle, and contributing to reducing pollution.
But the above story has partly proven a new lifestyle that is silently happening in each person, each family: A more economical and simpler lifestyle.
Forming a culture of thrift
Recently, concluding at the meeting of the Task Force to ensure energy security in the face of the complex developments of the military conflict in the Middle East on March 10, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to launch an energy saving campaign and soon deploy a roadmap to switch to biofuel (E10), contributing to reducing 10% of mineral gasoline consumption.
Along with solutions to ensure the supply of gasoline, oil, electricity, coal..., the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to develop energy-saving scenarios, promote propaganda and implement energy-saving solutions throughout society.
Also related to this content, in Official Dispatch No. 22/CD-TTg dated March 11, 2026 on strengthening solutions to ensure the supply of gasoline and oil for production, business and consumption of people and businesses, the Prime Minister requested the Minister of Industry and Trade, Chairmen of People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to implement appropriate, practical and effective solutions to encourage people and businesses to use gasoline and oil economically, prioritize the use of public transport, electric vehicles, and biofuels to reduce dependence on mineral gasoline and contribute to green transformation.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang - Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion said: "Using energy economically and efficiently is an extremely urgent task. Especially in 2025, the National Assembly passed the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Use of Energy Economically and Efficiently with many new points, increasing sanctions against energy-using establishments but at the same time having many policies to support and encourage businesses to transition to green, use energy economically and efficiently. In my opinion, it is necessary to focus on solutions to use energy economically and efficiently, in which communication, changing the awareness and behavior of businesses and people on this issue is very important.
Many businesses have begun to form a culture of thrift with many innovations. For example, the smart large space cooling solution of Toan Cau Mechanical and Import-Export Joint Stock Company installed at SPX Vinh Long warehouse has helped save overall energy up to 36% per year, equivalent to nearly 200,000 kWh/year. "This is a model that can be replicated for large warehouse systems, manufacturing plants and distribution centers in Vietnam, contributing to the goal of energy saving, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable development" - said the leader of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion.
